Southern rapper Rick Ross recently expanded on his new partnership with Diddy and why rubbing elbows with the rap mogul has opened the door to possible clothing, film and book deals.
Ross also said that Diddy would be helping to produce his Teflon Don album.
“It was the even bigger and better things that are on the horizon, which continue to present themselves every day — things I never considered up to this point. Book deals, now we’re considering liquor endorsements, clothing lines, films, books. Me and F. Gary Gray [who directed Ross’ “Super High” video] are talking about doing some things. I just wanna make sure I make the right decisions when those opportunities present themselves…We went through so many records. Just to hear [Diddy’s] input down to the smallest things, you know: percussions and snares and the production of the production. That’s what I want. That’s what I respect.” (MTV)
Recently, Diddy announced his partnership with Ross.
“We was in here one night, chopping it up, talking about these big plans,” Diddy said in a video. “Doing a partnership, not just a management, doing a partnership and I’m proud to announce that partnership. And he goes by the name of Ro-se, Ricky Ross, the Teflon Don. We’re gonna get a lot of money this year, you know, we see eye to eye. We got the same taste. We like fly things. He likes green. We like gold…” (Spliff TV)
Earlier this month, Diddy denied claims of managing both Ross and female rapper Nicki Minaj.
“For the record, as I said before, don’t believe the rumors,”Diddy said on a UStream broadcast. “I have not made no announcement yet, don’t believe no rumors about anything y’all hear. me and Nick, we just cool. I like her style. Rick Ross, he’s my brother. There’s no management announcements or none of that. So everybody, worry about what you’re worrying about. It’s all right for people to know each other and have an admiration towards each other and maybe pick each other’s brains for advice. I will be making an announcement in a couple of weeks on some things. But right now, everybody let’s chill out and be cool and stay focused on being positive…” (UStream)
Aside from the music, Ross recently talked about being compared to the late Notorious B.I.G..
“You know, we had been recording some things, but up to that point, we hadn’t released nothing,” Ross said about recording with Puff. “Me and Diddy had just been in the studio several times, trying things out and creating some stuff. When he made the comparisons of me and Biggie, I didn’t take them as me being compared to Biggie. Biggie is maybe the greatest of all-time. That wouldn’t even be a fair comparison. But I sometimes try to channel the emotions Biggie had in his music and his ability to tell stories. It touched me in a certain way.” (VIBE)
