Maybach Music Group leader Rick Ross has dialed up R&B veteran Mary J. Blige for some assistance toward his upcoming God Forgives, I Don’t LP currently in the works.
While making sure not to give away too many details, MJB hinted at her studio sessions alongside Ricky Rozay.
“I did a crazy, crazy record with Rick,” MJB told XXL. “Rick is fly. He picks the best beats man. That guy is amazing with that…[We recorded in] a private studio that one of our friends, he was really close to Michael Jackson, he let us use it — It’s actually Marvin Gaye‘s studio. It [has] murals of Michael Jackson all over the [walls], and Marvin Gaye. That was the last place [Michael] actually worked at before he passed. It’s such a good vibe…Rick Ross is beautiful — I just love him. So much respect to Rick Ross; he’s the truth. [He’s] such a gentleman [and] open and honest. [He’s] super talented and a G. He’s amazing; a really good person, and a lot of fun.” (XXL Mag)
A few weeks ago, Young Money rapper Drake hyped up Rozay’s Teflon Don follow-up.
“This guy right here,” Drake said motioning to Ross as the two sat at Lil Wayne‘s Tha Carter IV release party Sunday, “That God Forgives I Don’t; the only way I can describe it is like Doggystyle or Ready to Die or Clipse Lord Willin’ or any of the albums that I collected and held on to as a kid — whether it was cassette or CD.” (MTV)
Over the summer, Def Jam South president DJ Khaled labeled Ross’ upcoming LP a predestined classic.
“God Forgives, I Don’t is a classic-in-the-making. Let me tell you something right now: This album is so crazy from the beginning of what I’ve been in the studio hearing already,” Khaled said in an interview.. “I can’t give you too much because I’m going to let him do that, because that’s his project, but I could tell you right now it’s classic and he is talking that talk. God Forgives, I Don’t, it fits the time because right now it’s no rules. We don’t see ‘em; we going hard and that’s what Ross is doin’.” (MTV)
In January, the “Boss” announced plans to drop God Forgives, I Don’t as the follow-up to 2010’s Teflon Don.
“I’m in Swisher Studios right now working on my new project,” Ross told Power 105.1 radio hosts DJ Envy, Charlamagne Tha God and Angela Yee. “50 percent of the album [is] already [done]. This is the first time I’m revealing it, but the name of the album is God Forgives, I Don’t…One of the records that I excluded off the [Ashes To Ashes] mixtape was ‘Made Men’ featuring the homie Drake. I wanted to put some final touches on it and I wanted to give you the opportunity to bless the world with that.” (Power 105.1)
