Maybach Music Group leader Rick Ross isn't too pleased over the Forbes' Hip-Hop Cash Kings list and discussed the publication's past $9 million yearly salary estimate.

Instead of providing facts, Ross boasted his money-making confidence.

“I’m always top five,” he said. But when pressed on the details needed to back up that claim—such as how many gigs he’s played over the past year—he grinned and threw up his hands. “I don’t have no facts for you! I’m just giving you my guess. … The beauty of the Forbes list is that it excites the streets, it gives people an idea of what’s going on financially. It inspires the youngsters.” (Forbes)

Ross also acknowledged how much it meant to land on the Forbes list.

“Regardless of where I fall, it feels good to be associated with success, associated with a brand such as Forbes and the other artists on the list,” he said. “Me, I’m just warming up, I’m just starting.” (Forbes)

While he accepted the recognition, music mogul Diddy downplayed just how many zeros were in his bank account last year based on Forbes‘ estimates.

“I really can’t deny how humbling and how proud I am to be from Harlem, New York, be from the inner city and to be on the Forbes list,” Diddy said in an interview when asked if he would become hip-hop’s first billionaire. “I can’t deny that. But it doesn’t define me, if I become a billionaire or whatever the status is of what I’m worth. First of all, I do want to say to the Forbes cameras, I actually don’t, I want to tell you the truth. I actually don’t have that money in the bank, that’s saying how much I’m worth. So I don’t have that money in the bank. I want to make sure y’all are clear on that. I have no problem with saying that. If that pushes me down on the list, I’m okay with that.” (Forbes)

Fellow rap executive Jay Z previously dismissed the idea of being motivated solely by money.

Jay knows to the penny how much money he has, he tells Robinson, but won’t divulge the amount; when told that Forbes estimated his net worth at around $500 million, he dismisses it as a “guesstimate” and says he’s not motivated by money. “I’m not motivated by that. . . . I don’t sit around with my friends and talk about money, ever. On a record, that’s different.” (Vanity Fair)

  1. Smart man, keep that shit as vague as possible so the IRS-HipHop-Tax-Squad wont make you the next victim to get smacked with a tax bill or a conviction.

  2. He tours but doesnt sell out huge arenas … Has his record Label and Wing Stop … Its not like his artist are selling 500,000 first week so where is all this money he speaking of ? .. Granted he probably made more than 9 mil but nothing way more dramatic like he’s leading u to believe .. Cant knock the hustle tho

    • Maybe he has multiple endorsement deals with Reebok, Mcigs and DGK with stock options, and maybe he has stock in Ciroc/Diageo and BelaireRose/ Sovereign.

Maybe he gets publishing checks, royalties from a Catolog of over 1000 songs and the 11 albums he has executive produced under Maybach Music Group.

Maybe he gets a revenue stream from the sales of his albums and singles.

Maybe he gets paid for guest featuring on albums like Life Is Good and Magna Carter Holy Grail….or Chris Browns “X” and August Alsinas “Testimony”.

Does a rapper have to sell out a huge arena of his booking fee is
      60-80K?

      • Im only going by wat he stated … If he’s always top 5 why the hell is that not recorded ? Not saying the 9 mil figure isnt off but for it to be drastically off like he making 20+ mil a year he lying… Dude always lying this is nothing new .. Ross believes his own shit he talks and its hilarious . Dude makes decent music but he’s as phony as they come.. I mean the nigga hangs around Floyd now .. The same dude who was fucking with his kids … That told me enough

        • You sound like you lack melanin or maybe you are just slow.

He didn’t say he was top 5 in the literal sense he said his mentality and mind state is that he is Top 5.

Don’t act stupid, Ross is only “phony” to children who think rappers are “Real”,

So in your warped white-washed world if your ex bitch brings your kids around a new man or a man you don’t like then you kill the man or beat the woman like some weak sucka?

Why not do what a normal man would do and fire the bitch and then turn the man into a hustle and have him prompting your brands in his Showtime specials and allowing you to promote your brands at his televised boxing events?

          • …cont. Weak insecure people function off emotion like bitches but intelligent people function with icy precision and turn situations to their advantage to benefit themselves.

Some of these weak, insecure rappers function off emotion and then wonder why their careers crumble and their label goes belly up and they are unable to form constructive business associations within the industry.
