Maybach Music Group leader Rick Ross has weighed in on longtime friend DJ Khaled making viral headlines this week after publicly proposing to Young Money’s Nicki Minaj.
Ricky Rozay said Khaled is likely more serious than most people think about trying to marry Minaj.
“I see that it’s not planned, but I’m reading the small description underneath and it says he has a ring from Rafaello & Co, if I’m reading that correctly, that’s valued at about a half a million dollars. If you spend a half a million dollars, you’re dead a** serious. … That’s been my brother. I know he’s been infatuated with Nicki. I guess we all just gotta sit back and wait.” (Power 106)
The new proposal footage shows Khaled professing his love for the Young Money starlet.
“Nicki Minaj, I’m at MTV, I want to be honest with you. I love you. I like you. I want you to be mine. I’m here at MTV because it’s a world wide network and the only reason I’m not telling you this face-to-face is because I understand that you’re busy. I’m gonna be honest with you, I want to marry you. … Nicki Minaj, will you marry me? We got the same symptons, we both suffer from success.” (MTV)
Back in 2010, Young Money’s Drake said his mom actually believed they were married after pranking fans on Twitter.
“My mom was actually like, ‘What happened? How did you elope?’ ” the rapper, 23, told PEOPLE at the MTV Movie Awards Sunday. “But we were just joking around. I never thought it would get so out of hand…Ironically, I got a ring for myself, so people were like, ‘Aw, you got married, and you have a ring you’re wearing. People still think it’s real. I’ll look at a girl, and she’ll be like, ‘You’re a married man. You shouldn’t look at me that way.'” (PEOPLE)
Minaj previously spoke to DJ Drama and said she never married her labelmate.
“No, Drama, don’t be silly,” Minaj told Drama when asked about expecting kids with Drake. “Drake is just my little brother and I kid with him all the time. That’s all. Yes, yes, we were just being crazy and I think we were a little bit bored. I wouldn’t say we were bored, but we were being just mischievous. I did another interview and they asked me and I said, everyday I see things written about me that aren’t true. So I wanted to kinda give the blogs a little bit of payback and put my own story out. [laughs] I don’t date boys, I don’t like boys. [laughs] It’s true — I think boys are yucky and that’s it. There’s nothing more to say.” (DJ Drama)
