Southern rapper Rick Ross has made room for some new passengers on his Maybach Music roster and confirmed speculation that Roc Nation’s Wale is on his radar.
The “Boss” is currently eyeing down Philadelphia-bred emcee Meek Millz and Washington, D.C.’s own Wale.
“I look for next year to be an even bigger year,” Ross said in an interview. “We just brought Jah Cure to the team. That’s one of the biggest reggae superstars in the game. We just did a deal with that. Look for that first quarter. I’m talking to an artist out of Philly that I think is the future of Philly. Meek Millz, I’m talking to him right now about Maybach Music. As well as I’m talking to Wale.” (The Source)
Ross elaborated on his co-sign of Wale and what he brings to the table.
“Wale is a hustler,” Ross added. “I feel he’s one record away from being the next n*gga. He’s just a naturally fly n*gga. Slick talking n*gga. That’s right up my alley. I just think that comradery, riding with Rozay, it’ll mean that much more. I feel he’s one record away. As well as Meek Millz.” (The Source)
Last week, Wale hinted at plans of signing to Ross’ imprint.
“Maybach Music,” Wale tweeted December 10th.
“It had to be done..2011 gonna be serious situation RT @rickyrozay: @Wale it’s a lifestyle.”
“New year, new sounds, new deal, same Olubowale 2011 is gonna be beautiful , glory be to God.” (Wale’s Twitter)
Earlier this year, the Roc Nation artist spoke on competing with rappers like Kid Cudi, Drake and Asher Roth.
“One of us got the most record sales, the other one wants the most fame,” Wale explained when asked about competing with Drake, Asher Roth and Kid Cudi. “One of them has the most fame, the other one wants to have the credibility to be a true hip-hop person. One of them is more of a true hip-hop person but the other one is more record sales. It’s just like in the NBA, one guygets this kind of money but then there’s another guy who plays in the West Coast that makes this kinda money and that sounds good but he wants as much money as him and now this guy wants the same money as LeBron [James] but then LeBron wants as much money as [New York Yankees’] A-Rod, from another sport. Nobody’s ever really satisfied but that’s just human nature though.” (Amarudontv)
