The singer’s memory was remembered by fans and celebrities alike via social networking tool Twitter.

Jackson’s life was also celebrated by Jay-Z‘s Decoded author Dream Hampton.

There were also celebrations held amongst the Jackson family.

The late Michael Jackson would have been 52 today. The commemoration of his birthday has sparked tributes to the music icon, who died in June 2009, from around the world to his hometown of Gary, Ind. Members of the Jackson family were on hand in their former home, including Michael’s father, Joe Jackson, for a four-day festival in the singer’s honor. (The Hollywood Gossip)

Jackson passed away last year due to medical complications.

On the afternoon of June 25, 2009, while in the middle of rehearsing for a series of 50 concerts, Jackson collapsed. He was rushed to the UCLA Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at the age of 50. His death was later ruled a homicide, the result of ingesting a lethal amount of prescription drugs. Unsurprisingly, a slew of releases ensued — planned prior to and after Jackson’s death — including Motown’s Michael Jackson: The Remix Suite and a soundtrack for This Is It, the film based on Jackson’s rehearsals for the comeback concerts.
