Grammy-winning singer R. Kelly recently delved into his new "To The World" Cruel Summer collaboration and how the G.O.O.D. Music compilation track came together with Kanye West.
According to Kells, Yeezy reached out to him for the official Chi-Town blessing.
Meanwhile, Kelly can also be heard on joining fellow Chicagoan Kanye West on “To The World,” the opening track on West’s G.O.O.D. Music compilation “Cruel Summer.” “Kanye sent me a track he was working on. I sent it back. He sent it back to me, I sent it back to him… until we had something,” Kelly recalls. “It felt good to both of us. He trusts my talent and I trust his talent. I knew Kanye way before he was known. We’ve always had fun in the clubs or wherever we were, just kickin’ it, but we never had a chance to get in the studio before and hook up like this, and I’m just glad we finally got that chance. I’m just very honored to be on this track working with him.” (Billboard)
Prior to the entire LP leaking, Kells and Kanye’s collaboration initially sprouted online.
It looks like all of the folks that were screaming ‘YOLO’ may have a new anthem. With less than a week until its release date, G.O.O.D Music’s compilation album ‘Cruel Summer’ has finally sprung a leak. The LP’s opening track made its way onto the web last night, and it is a collabo between Kanye West and R. Kelly. Chi-Town stand up! Years ago, R. Kelly gave us a taste of what a collaboration from the two artists would sound like when he hopped on the remix of ‘Flashing Lights’, however this song is giving a similar vibe to The Throne’s track “Lift Off” featuring Beyonce. Instead of taking off to the moon, R. Kelly is encouraging folks to have an ‘I don’t give a f-ck’ attitude while flipping the bird to the world. Even though her name isn’t listed, Teyana Taylor makes an appearance towards the end of the song, while giving a husky reinterpretation of the chorus. (Necole Bitchie)

G.O.O.D. Music’s anticipated Cruel Summer album won’t officially be released until September 18, but the LP leaked to the Web on Thursday, and in addition to that off-the-wall feature from R. Kelly on the opening track “To the World,” ‘Ye throws a quick jab at Mitt Romney. Oh, and he repeats it, just to make sure no one misses it. Including a quick shout-out to Rick Ross and his hit “Hold Me Back,” West spits, “I be all up in Goldman Sachs like these n—as tryna hold me back, these n—as tryna hold me back/ I’m just trying to protect my stacks/ Mitt Romney don’t pay no tax, Mitt Romney don’t pay no tax.” (MTV)
The new compilation album is expected to sell up to 200,000 copies in its opening week.
