According to reports, Jones put Diddy on blast for venturing too far outside of the music industry.

Quincy Jones isn’t a fan of Sean “Diddy” Combs. Jones was the guest of honor at the Spotify Stories Behind the Music event held at the Andaz Hotel in Hollywood, Calif., Tuesday (June 26) where he spoke with host, Bruno Mars about his legendary career and creative process. Noting that he found his way into the industry to escape the criminal activity that surrounded him, the 79-year-old later lashed out at Diddy, who he said “couldn’t recognize a b flat if it hit him.” Jones went on to state that the Hip-Hop mogul’s strengths have nothing to do with music. “P. Diddy has a doctorate in marketing, he’s got clothes companies, and Ciroc vodka.” he said. (Hip Hop Wired)

Despite the report, Jones has since come forward to deny intentionally going at Puff’s neck.

“No controversy, no diss. I have nothing but love and respect for Diddy and all that he has achieved as an artist and an executive. Always have and always will.” (Statement)

Last month, Mr. Combs boasted about landing atop Forbes’ annual hip-hop list.

“I’m usually at No. 1,” Diddy said in an interview. “Our plan was to always flip-flop on it. This was the year I told him that we had to flop it back to its original owner. We push each other, we inspire each other. It’s just a beautiful relationship of natural competitiveness. But you know, it’s back at Bad Boy.” (Hot 97)

Forbes editor Zack O’Malley Greenburg recently said Puff’s Ciroc Vodka brand has helped elevate him over his peers.

“Number one is Diddy at $550 million. He’s number one, far and away from everybody else mainly because of Ciroc,” editor Zack O’Malley Greenburg said in an interview. “He’s got this incredible deal backed by beverage giant, Diageo. He gets a huge cut of profits and he’s entitled to a split in profits of any sale of the brand. Second up we have Jay-Z. Jay-Z’s one of the only artists whose making a lot of music actively. He released Watch the Throne last year — so Jay-Z’s right up there.” (Forbes)
