While still in the solo project’s early stages, Tip said his dedicated fans motivated him to try a new approach.

“I feel like my fans have been so gracious over the years,” Q-Tip says. “They’re so smart that I want to extend the grace back to them and speak to them in their tongues.” One slight problem: The Abstract Poetic is fluent in neither French nor Spanish. “I’m going to have to brush up!” He plans to start seriously focusing on The Last Zulu in February, with a tentative release target of late 2011/early 2012. Here’s hoping it doesn’t fall victim to the label shenanigans that delayed 2008?s The Renaissance for so long. (Entertainment Weekly)

Tip will also focus on providing an old-school vibe to the upcoming album.

“It’s going to take us back to the days of when it was breakbeats, when [Grandmaster] Flash and [Afrika] Bambaataa was throwing on them hard beats. It’s going to have a lot of that energy, and it’s going to feel really big and anthemic. It’s going to be unlike anything I’ve done before.” (Entertainment Weekly)

The rapper’s last album debuted within the Top 20 upon its release in November 2008.

Finally, making his return is Q-Tip, whose Renaissance stomped in at No. 11 in its opening week. Serving as his follow-up album to 1999’s Amplified, the former A Tribe Called Quest front man has entered the charts with 34,200 after seven days. (SOHH Sales Wrap)

In addition to his own music, Tip recently discussed working on Jay-Z‘s forthcoming Blueprint III follow-up.

“You know, I hate to sound self-involved but I feel like I haven’t peaked yet. I have a lot to give still. I still look the part… I still got it. I’m getting ready to work on stuff for Mary J. BligeKanye [West] and I are gonna continue to work together. We’re doing some stuff for Jay-Z’s new album that’s coming out in the spring, and then after Jay’s thing I’m gonna start recording my new album…Kanye should be working on that, too.” (XXL Mag)
