According to Pusha, Mr. West wanted him to slim the LP down to no more than nine records.

“It’s twelve songs and I had to fight for twelve because it was only supposed to be nine,” Pusha revealed in an interview. “Ye only wanted nine records. And I was like, ‘I got twelve, man!’ [laughs] And my win was, ‘Man, Yeezus got ten songs, so how you only gonna give me nine?’ [laughs] Then he had to sort of think about it and be like, ‘All right, man.’ And he just let me get my artist thing off.” (NPR)

Despite ample competition, Pusha managed to push out over 70,000 copies in week one.

Miley CyrusBangerz sold roughly 274,000 copies to claim the top spot. She beat out last week’s No. 1, Justin Timberlake‘s The 20/20 Experience 2 of 2, which sold 72,000 and placed No. 5 on the chart. Pusha T also made his debut this week with My Name Is My Name, which sold a little over 74,000 copies to land at No. 4 on the Billboard 200. The album was backed by the singles “Pain” featuring Future and “Sweet Serenade” featuring Chris Brown. Considering this is Pusha’s debut solo album, the 36-year-old veteran rapper from Virginia had a commendable performance on the charts. Danny Brown debuts at No. 17 with his impressive album Old. The Fool’s Gold release from the Detroit MC moved 15,000 copies in its first week. (Complex)

Recently, Pusha said he has never reaped the benefit of snatching huge record sales and won’t start worrying about it at this point in his career.

“I ain’t sold a lot of records ever,” Push said in an interview. “Like for real, being honest. It ain’t no big deal to me. My grassroots following, my fans is what keep me alive out here and doing these shows everyday.” (“The Breakfast Club”)

Maybach Music Group boss Rick Ross recently revealed he sparked the idea of Pusha joining the G.O.O.D family three years ago.

Rick Ross recently stopped by DJ Skee‘s radio show to talk about his new album Mastermind and the success of Maybach Music Group over the years. During the interview Ross also revealed that he was the reason Kanye West ended up signing Pusha T to G.O.O.D. Music. He says the conversation started when they were recording in Hawaii back in 2010 for Kanye’s My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. “I was like, ‘Ye, that boy Pusha T, man, that boy dope,'” he recalls. “He don’t got no situation right now. That’s something you should sleep on.” Pusha would later sign with G.O.O.D. Music in the fall of 2010. (Complex)
