G.O.O.D Music's Pusha T has discussed Kanye West stealing the spotlight from him last week when he went off on an unexpected rant toward the entertainment industry at his My Name Is My Name album release party.
Despite the eye-raising Yeezy antics, Pusha said he has already grown accustomed to Mr. West dishing out epic rants.
“First of all, when he asked me for the mic I almost fainted, then. I’m like, ‘Wait a minute, you want a mic?'” I purposefully had the mic far away because I didn’t even feel like talking. I just wanted to listen to the music. He asked for the mic. So then, I had to go get it. I was like, okay hold on a minute. Here we go. Just listening to him, man, he always sits around and has that braggy attitude about what’s being done in music. What he’s going to do in music. What we’ve done. Things we’ve created. ‘We made this. We made that.’ So it’s really not new to me. People just don’t know that. Until he goes on one of his wild rants. That’s when y’all get it.” (Hot 97)
While brief with his comments on Ye’s rant, Pusha did point out the positive side of hip-hop artists like the G.O.O.D Music boss being arrogant a few days ago.
“Right,” Pusha said when DJ Envy referenced Ye’s rant. “[He was probably a little intoxicated,] yeah. … We’re like rappers, man, I didn’t even know arrogant was bad being a rapper. That’s the era I’m from. It’s like, you know, someone is proving it’s himself, whether it’s on the production end, whether it’s on an artistic end, and his track record at putting out albums, I hope don’t none of that hurt me. I would hope that all of that means, ‘Yo, Pusha’s about to have that sh*t.'” (Hip Hop Nation)
According to reports, Ye’s rant-filled speech followed a surprise introduction from Pusha earlier in the week.
Pusha-T was the guest of honor at his “My Name Is My Name” album listening party Wednesday night in Brooklyn, but all eyes were on the man standing next to him: Kanye West. After asking the DJ to wait before starting the next track, West got on the mic and delivered one of his fiercest rants to date, expressing his support for Pusha-T by ripping some of the usual suspects (“corporations”) and taking aim at some new supposed trend biters (people who wear camouflage prints, people who “put numbers on the back of their t-shirts”). (Huffington Post)
In Ye’s rant, he fully showed support for Pusha T and took direct aim at the corporate side of the entertainment industry.
“Aye yo this Yeezy right now speaking to y’all. This the heart of the muthaf**king city, act y’all ain’t have that muthaf**king Clipse album and shit. Act like y’all ain’t base y’all whole shit, whole lifestyle off this ni**a Pusha T. Everything is Pusha T. Pyrex Vision, that’s Pusha T. Fear of God, that’s Pusha T. This ni**a the heart of the muthaf**king culture for you culture vultures. This the only ni**a spitting that wild muthaf**king hip-hop shit right now, that’s why I stand next to this ni**a. I don’t give a f**k about none of these corporations, none of these f**king sellouts, this muthaf**king Pusha T. This is the f**k we make. We make good music, we make good music. We don’t give a f**k about how much god damn money you make, we make good music.” (Miss Info TV)
