Mobb Deep producer Alchemist has updated fans on the status of his long-time friend, incarcerated rapper Prodigy, has stated when the hip-hop veteran will be released from prison.
According to Alchemist, Prodigy will be a free man in early 2011.
“P comes home in February. It’s gonna be a very busy time. It’s amazing. He feels like he’s home already. He’s in the best health he’s been in. He’s really excited. I’ve been sending him beats. Havoc is sending him beats. I e-mail them to his wife, and she puts it on some type of cassette. It’s like he’s in the studio, he’s just not recording.” (MTV)
In May, Mobb Deep’s Havoc updated fans on the status of his groupmate.
“Prodigy is chilling, yeah, you know he’s got the ‘Phone Tap’ song out, he’s still doing his thing behind bars,” Hav said in an interview. “That’s classic P. He’ll always find a way to make himself vocal, even if he’s behind bars. But he’s chilling, maintaining, he’s ready to come out and get to work. He’s got a book in the making, so it’s just crazy. I talk to him, like, a few times a month and I go see him every few months so we’re in pretty good contact. That’s my brother.” (Vlad TV)
Last March, Prodigy released his “Phone Tap” song from behind bars.
“Yo they monitor the phone calls, watch what you say, you gotta phone tap better watch how you speak, yeah, welcome to state prison, they got a call on the hotline, who is it,” P raps. “I heard Rat P got knocked, I mean Max B, I heard Tru Life fighting — anyway, 50 [Cent] came to see me last weekend, we had a long talk about how it’s gon’ be when I touch town, and when I touch down, we gonna party like the Super Bowl on the countdown…Everybody copy what the next man does, I listen to Pitbull and Flo Rida, these new n*ggas sounding like Kanye West — all they gon’ do is run like Saigon did, but tell Hav I love him, get the beats together, so when Mobb Deep drop we’ll be bigger and better…” (“The Phone Tap”)
P pleaded guilty in October 2007 to a gun possession charge which led to his current incarceration.
Mobb Deep rapper Prodigy has been sentenced to three-and-a-half years behind bars after pleading guilty to a weapons charge dating back to 2006. Authorities say Prodigy was pulled over in downtown Manhattan after he was spotted driving in the opposite direction on a one-way street in an attempt to claim a parking spot. A search of the car turned up an unlicensed .22-caliber pistol. He will begin his sentence January 2008. (Hip Hop Galaxy)
