Musician Post Malone has come forward to speak out on old footage recently emerging of himself using the N-word.

In an interview with Atlanta producer DJ Drama, Malone took responsibility for the controversial word drop.

“It’s unacceptable, you know. And I made a mistake and I wanna apologize,” Malone said. “And I guess that’s really it, and I can’t really say nothing, you know. It was wrong of me.” (Gangsta Grillz Radio)

Buzz about the N-word situation bubbled online a few days ago.

This week a clip from Post’s Vine account was unearthed by the hip-hop forum KanyeToThe that features the rapper casually watching Animal Planet and remarking, with another white friend on camera, that “We watch Too Cute, n*gga.” The original Vine has been deleted, but a forum user captured it on YouTube. Rap star Kendrick Lamar revealed his struggle with trying to stop using the N-word.

“The closest I can do to stopping is putting the root word, negus, on my album. But I don’t know if I’m there mentally to stop saying the N-word yet. I dunno, maybe one day. That’s 27 years of reversing that word, I probably been saying that since I was one-year-old.” (NME)

Instead of taking offense, rapper Rich Homie Quan recently said he embraced white fans using the N-word during his performances.

“I feel good, man, because it’s that kind of trap that we want people to do,” Homie said when asked about his take on fans rapping to his “My N*gga” song. “It’s almost like cross-over music. I feel good. I don’t really look at nothing by it. It’s good. You make music so people can recite it and that’s what they’re doing, they’re reciting the song. … I wouldn’t say racism is worse in the South because it was so hard in the South, I think people are very nice in the South now and don’t want to go back to those days. I’ve seen very little racism since I’ve been living.” (VLAD TV)
