According to Leach, the label tried to limit the leak but tried to see the positive impact behind the album prematurely getting out.

“From a business standpoint, we tried to control it as much as we could, and also pay attention to the signs. From a personal standpoint, it was a gift and a curse. I was disappointed that it leaked so early, and I was concerned about whether that would affect us. … I think the word of mouth was great. I think people appreciated the body of work. I’m glad that what leaked was not super rough demos and shit like that. A lot of the comments have been, “I downloaded it; I’m still buying it.” Again, that speaks to Rocky’s core. They don’t want no bootleg sh*t. They want the real deal. It’s like, “Yeah, I download sh*t for free. But I also buy what I like.” Nevertheless, leaking a month away from the release during the holiday period, it definitely was scary.” (XXL Mag)

Despite the bad implications, Leach said he still believes loyal fans will support the new album.

“Nah, I still have faith,” Leach said when asked if his sales expectations have changed. “That’s not just sh*t-taking. I think this is a new world. This is the new way that sh*t works. Even if it never leaked I would have had to cross my fingers on January 15. Maybe I’ll cross two fingers instead of one.” (XXL Mag)

A few weeks ago, Rocky addressed the project’s leak and denied being shook over its potential negative impact.

“Can I keep it a hundred with you,” Rocky asked hip-hop personality Miss Info. “I’ve been waiting for people to hear this music for so d*mn long. Of course I’ve got to be a businessman but before anything, I’m an artist. The album leaked and I’m going to leave it up to my dependable label which I rely on to fix all that. That’s the business aspect. I made my art, y’all love it and that’s all I cared about and I just want to thank everybody who’s anticipated this and who is waiting.” (Hot 97)

The LP sprouted online around the winter holiday in late December.

Sadly, earlier this week A$AP Rocky’s long-awaited LongLiveA$AP debut album leaked online one month in advance. While the move could be devastating for a new artist, Rocky’s taking it in stride. Tonight, the Harlem rapper releases the opening song off the album, which he performed recently on MTV. Produced by Jim Jonsin and Rico Love, Pretty Flacko brings his slick talk over the melodic tune filled with heavy bass. (Miss Info TV)
