NFL superstars Peyton Manning and Eli Manning are showing the world their funny side away from the field with the release of a new hip-hop-inspired DirecTV music video, "Football On Your Phone."
The Super Bowl-winning quarterbacks’ new parody clip premiered online Tuesday (August 6).
Ever wanted to see Eli Manning or Peyton Manning rap? The correct answer to that is: “No. For the love of all that’s holy, no.” But prepare to change your opinion. The brothers Manning have teamed up for DirecTV’s “Football on Your Phone” ad campaign, which the company launched with a thoroughly entertaining music video starring the two QBs. Without further ado … I mean, the hair! The line, “There’s football on your phone, so now’s your chance, to have football on your phone and football in your pants”! (Sports Illustrated)
Clearly inspired by hip-hop artists like 2 Chainz based on Peyton’s attire, the franchise brothers don fake wigs and show off cheesy dance moves.
In a video that is as fascinating as it is disturbing, the Giants quarterback teamed up with his quarterback brother Peyton, in a rap video/commercial for DirecTV’s Sunday Ticket. In the three-minute spot, both Mannings dress up as stereotypical rappers – which for Eli included a curly wig and apparently fake tan – as they rap their way through the streets of New Orleans. They even convinced their father, a former NFL quarterback, to join in on the fun.
The Manning brothers recorded a spot for DirecTV’s “Sunday Ticket”, donning cheesy 1980s-style curly wigs and rapping a slow jam called “Football On Your Phone.” Eli may have the best line in the song/commercial: “It’s like I spilled milk all over your blouse on accident, or on pupose. It’s like the milk is football and your blouse is the phone. Uh huh. Yea.” But father Archie Manning steals the show, sitting on a throne and chiming in with an “Uh huh. Yea.” (Newsday)
Buzz behind the music video circulated online around mid-July.
He’s already got 2 ringz … but this week, Eli Manning threw on 2 Chainz … and gangster’d himself out (along with his brother Peyton) … for another DirecTV commercial shoot in New Orleans, and TMZ has the pic. With Eli sporting a red Kanye-inspired jacket and a quasi-mullet … and Peyton sporting a Jew-fro and Birdman shades … we’re guessing the NFL superstars were doing another one of those goofy spots for Sunday Ticket. Back in 2011, the two dressed up like cops … it was hilarious. (TMZ)
