Asked to name her favorite retail projects of 2012, Minaj countered with her love for hip-hop as a whole.

“I really have been enjoying all of the hip-hop albums that came out because I feel like hip-hop artists have been taking their careers into their own hands and I just want to give a salute to everyone because it’s not easy. … The music has been sort of changing and adding new sounds to the game and introducing new people to the game, so I would just give a big nod to hip-hop for 2012.” (Associated Press)

She recently spoke on the difficulty of getting retailers to sell her new Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded The Re-Up.

“It’s hard to get the album because the stores basically said that the last few re-releases they had put out did not do well and they didn’t want to take a chance. Target and Wal-Mart are not selling thealbum, and Target is actually my biggest retailer. Best Buy only took limited [stock] because they wanted to play it safe. It kinda sets you up to fail.” (“The Breakfast Club”)

Recently, Minaj talked about her new re-release getting packed with rap bars.

“I am in a stage right now, where that’s just how I feel,” she told MTV News, turning the word feel to “fill” in that Southside Jamaica, Queens way. “I’m on my rap sh– — that’s just how I feel right now. But I’m [also] saying that there’s nothing wrong with being diverse. [But] where I am right now? I’m back to my popping sh–!” she declared before cracking up into a contagious fit of laughter. “The Re-Up is what I do naturally. It’s what I came into the game doing,” she emphasized. “So I actually don’t have the fears about it being critiqued. I guess when I started doing dance songs, then there was more like a question mark there, ’cause I had never done it.” (MTV)

Last weekend, the female rapper won big at the American Music Awards.

Bieber and Nicki Minaj performed together — and separately — at the AMAs, and were both multiple winners. Minaj, who wore three different wigs and four outfits throughout the night, repeated her AMAs wins from last year, picking up trophies for favorite rap/hip-hop artist and album for “Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded.” She was in an all-white get-up, including fur coat and pink hair when she performed her new song “Freedom.” The scene was ghostly and snowy, as a choir — also in white — joined her onstage. One background singer stole the performance, belting semi-high notes as Minaj looked on. (New York Daily News)
