Last month, rap icon Ice Cube talked about taking part in this year’s BET Hip-Hop Awards cypher.

“What up fam? Last night I stood on a roof in Brooklyn wit my 2 sons (OMG & Doughboy) and the “King of Rock” Rev. Run wit his 2 sons (Diggy & Jo Jo) and we did the BET Hip Hop Awards Cypher. We killed it. Me and Run had 16 bars and our boys had 8 bars a piece. We had DJ Premier on the wheels and it was a beautiful night. Ya’ll don’t understand. I was a straight fan last night. I grew up on Run-DMC and having a chance to do a cypher wit the legendary DJ Run was a bucket list moment for ya’ boy. It was all love of course and we talked about a line he said in ’83 that set it all off, “If you say you heard my rhymes we’re gonna have to fight, Cause I just made the mothafuckas up last night!” Now that’s hip-hop. Just wanted to share that wit ya’ll. On my way back to Cali… Keep It Gangsta, Ice Cube” (Ice Cube’s Blog)

At last year’s ceremony, Jay-Z, T.I. and Drake stole the show with multiple wins.

Jay-Z led the evening with “Best Live Performer,” “Lyricist of the Year” “MVP of the Year” and “Hustler of the Year.” T.I. followed with “Best Hip-Hop Collabo” (“Live Your Life”), “CD of the Year” (Paper Trail), “Best Hip-Hop Video” (“Live Your Life”) while Drake snagged “Track of the Year” (“Every Girl”) and “Rookie of the Year.” Additional winners including Kanye West, director Hype Williams and Fabolous.
