Young Money star Nicki Minaj is set to heat up newsstands in the coming weeks by getting featured in an upcoming issues of women’s lifestyle publication Glamour magazine.
Based on a feature excerpt, Minaj talked about maintaining self confidence.
“In my downtime, I’m the most low-key person in the world. We all have insecurities, but you have to know you’re beautiful. I’m comfortable in my skin and I don’t feel the need to change for anyone.” (Glamour)
Former Roc-A-Fella female rapper Amil recently talked about Minaj’s ability to conquer behind-the-scenes battles.
“I got mad respect and love for Nicki. She’s doing it really big and that’s odd for a female. It’s really hard for a female rapper… out of every female entertainer, they got it the worst. I support her because behind-the-scenes she’s going through a lot. And to be able to handle that– that’s big.” (VIBE)
In December, hip-hop veteran MC Lyte discussed Minaj’s genre-transcending abilities.
“Those who really need to be worried by Nicki’s record is Fergie, Gwen Stefani, Nelly Furtado,” Lyte said in an interview. “Nicki is coming out to win. She’s not thinking of the block. She’s not just thinking of the city. So she’s able to handle so many areas of what it takes right now to be an international star. So hats off to everybody that’s doing it but, I see the vision that Nicki sees for herself that people probably didn’t see before.” (VH1)
Along with selling over a million copies of her Pink Friday debut to date, Minaj won a trophy at last month’s Video Music Awards.
BEST NEW ARTIST: Tyler, the Creator “Yonkers,” BEST HIP-HOP VIDEO: Nicki Minaj, “Super Bass,” BEST CHOREOGRAPHY: Beyonce, “Run the World (Girls),” BEST VISUAL EFFECTS: Katy Perry featuring Kanye West, “E.T.” (“Video Music Awards 2011″)
The new issue hits newsstands on Tuesday, September 6th.
