Young Money star Nicki Minaj recently talked about her growing profile since becoming a must-watch judge on this season's "American Idol" and what the experience has been like thus far.
Although she rubs elbows with fellow entertainers on the music competition show, Nicki proudly boasted about how great of a job she has done.
“My best and worst ‘Idol’ moments? I don’t have a worst ‘Idol’ moment. I’ve been spectacular. Yes, I am going to toot my own horn,” she said. “And then my best moment is every single moment. I’ll toot it again. … I feel like my entire career and life, I’ve been judged by people who did not really know me. I definitely think that they probably were right to assume what they had assumed about me, because there was such little to go on out there. I’m just happy that ‘Idol’ producers gave me a shot on the show and to be able to show who I really was, because I feel like I’m every single woman.” (MTV)
She also touched on her initial butterflies prior to the season kicking off a few months ago.
“I am absolutely just being me. I didn’t know what to expect going into the show. I was so nervous. I had a lot of anxiety,” she said. “I definitely play with my fans and speak to my fans as though they’re my friends, and that’s why I started giving the contestants nicknames. I can’t be someone I’m not. I can’t do it. And so I’m happy that people are responding well to it. If I’m polarizing, I’m polarizing. I don’t know, but I definitely didn’t have a preconceived notion of who I was going to be on that panel. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime experience, and I feel like people have gotten to know the real me.” (MTV)
Last fall, TLC’s T-Boz had some choice words over Minaj joining “American Idol.”
T-Boz doesn’t believe in holding back with her opinions, and she recently sat down with This is Max in London to express her dismay about Nicki Minaj being an American Idol judge. “Just because you’re on TV gyrating and boning and sucking p*nises, it’s not talent, honey. Maybe in the porn industry, but over here, we entertain. I don’t respect half [of] the people I’ve seen lately. How the hell is she gon’ tell me what I should be doing when her azz can’t even sing. Why is she there? And then…now they’ve got rappers that don’t even sing judging? So, this is totally based off of popularity I guess. I mean, to each their own. Get your money, honey. All I’m saying is, I will never watch [your] shows again. (Miss Jia)
Along with the hit show, Nicki could be taking over Hollywood in the near future.
Nicki Minaj has set her sights on the big screen. She told Page Six on Oscar night, “I would love to act, it just has to be the right project, the right movie.” “Nothing stereotypical about a singer,” the rapper and “American Idol” judge said. “I have an agent, and we are looking at a couple of scripts, so we’ll see.” (New York Post)
