Young Money rapper Nicki Minaj appeared on late night talk show "Jimmy Kimmel Live" last night (January 25) and revealed how an innocent encounter with another man nearly got her locked up.
According to Minaj, this all took place while recently touring in Dubai.
“I was in Dubai, yup, mmhmm,” Nicki said. “You know what? I almost got in so much trouble because the guys in Dubai are sooo cute, it’s not even funny and, yes, [laughs], and so, it’s one of the rules, you can’t hug a man there if you’re not married to the man and so when we were leaving, there was this one guy who was so freaking cute, I was just like, ‘Byeee’ ’cause I just wanted to have this one last moment to like, savor the moment with him. [laughs] I didn’t know that he was a cop because they don’t have like a police [uniform], it was just a private airport, so they were just dressed in their regular garments and I went to give him a hug and I almost felt like, literally, time stopped in Dubai.” (“Jimmy Kimmel Live”)
Although they did not fully embrace, Nicki said she got her mini-hug and apologized afterward for causing such a commotion.
“I felt like everything froze and every single person turned in slow motion like, ‘Noooooooooo’ and everybody on my team thought I was about to be put in jail. [For hugging?] Yes. It was the scariest thing. He kinda put his arms up a little bit and cracked a nervous smile and I was just like, ‘I’m sorry, I’m sorry!’ and I just left.” (“Jimmy Kimmel Live”)
Outside of overseas drama, Minaj recently made headlines for launching a new clothing line with mega retailer Kmart.
Nicki Minaj is coming to a store near you. Following deals with Pepsi, M.A.C., and OPI, the hip-hop mogul has announced a partnership with Kmart to sell her multi-department lifestyle brand. Nicki will launch apparel and accessories collections in conjunction with Kmart and the ShopYourWay.com social shopping platform. The “Starships” rapper will develop the lines, which will be available exclusively at select Kmartlocations and on ShopYourWay.com beginning this year. She will oversee the design and development of the brand so that it reflects her strong creative talent, expressive personality, and distinctive individual style. (Rap-Up)
In less serious news, she recently reaped the benefit of throwing down some A.1. Steaksauce at a dinner earlier this month.
The Nicki Minaj/A.1. Steaksauce love affair isn’t a one way thing … because it turns out the folks behind the tasty, tasty sauce are as big a fan of her as she is of them. If you’ll recall … our photogs spotted Minaj out this week at Boa — a super-fancy steakhouse in Hollywood — where shehad someone bring her a bottle of A.1. into the restaurant. While the move is a HUGE no-no in steak etiquette, the folks over A.1. tell TMZ they were thrilled to see Minaj make a sauce run and they are HUGE fans of hers. The rep tells, “We’re so glad to hear that Nicki Minaj loves our sauce just as much as we love her and her music. To make sure she’s never ‘sauceless’ again, we sent Nicki some of our A.1. Original Steak Sauce. Now she’ll have A.1. wherever she goes.” (TMZ)
