Within the feature, Minaj explains why she feels her style enables her to appeal to listeners outside of her home state.

“When I started rapping, people were trying to make me like the typical New York rapper, but I’m not that,” Minaj says. “No disrespect to New York rappers, but I don’t want people to hear me and know exactly where I’m from. I wanted the [Pink Friday debut] album to be universal and versatile. It really feels like it speaks for every one of my personalities.” (Billboard)

Earlier this year, the “Barbie” expressed her desire to represent more than just one region.

“I think very often people miss that I’m from New York, and I don’t really know why that is, but I remember I said on Twitter one time, ‘Shout out to Queens,’ and all of the gay boys thought I was talking to them, and I realized that people haven’t gotten that I’m Southside Jamaica, Queens, New York City. I feel like I say it a lot, but I guess I’m not saying it that much, or it’s that I’m so diverse and I don’t always rap with the New York accent–I switch it up, you know. People don’t see me as just repping one city or one state. I actually really like that. That was always my goal: to be able to bridge that gap, you know, whether it’s to London.” (XXL Magazine)

Just days before her Pink Friday debut finally hits stores, Minaj has gained heavy co-signs from rap stars including Jay-Z and Diddy.

And now, Nicki Minaj is finalizing the paperwork that will allow theLast Train to Paris superstar to guide her career. The Young Money femcee has already been in the studio with Diddy, and he’s been singing her praises. “Nicki Minaj, she’s definitely one of the great ones,” Diddy told MTV News while promoting “Get Him to the Greek,” speaking publicly for the first time about his new signee. “She has a long way to go, but you know how we recognized LeBron [James] was a great one, Tiger [Woods] was a great one, and Kobe [Bryant] was a great one? Nicki is up there. Her story has just begun.” (MTV)

New Jersey rapper Redman also recently vouched for Minaj and applauded her ability to maintain a strong buzz.

“I like Nicki Minaj, I love the whole Young Money camp and what they’re doing,” Red said in an interview. “Because hey, they’re keeping the sh*t going, you can’t know them. And I look at it as anyone that don’t like what they’re doing, step the f*ck up and change it then and make a change. You can’t sit back complaining on the sideline, you gotta be in the game…They’re original, even though Nicki Minaj has her wild style to her or whatever but she’s keeping them talking. And that’s what you want to do. She’s making an impact, I even said her name on one of my new records…They’re either gonna love you or hate you but they gotta respect you and I think that’s what Drake‘s going after, that’s what Nicki Minaj is going after…” (Vlad TV)

Pink Friday is scheduled to drop Monday, November 22nd.
