Young Money’s Nicki Minaj recently updated fans on what she has going on as 2011 progresses including work on a sophomore album and plans to temporarily leave the United States.
Minaj said she is interested in packing up and traveling throughout Europe.
“Well, of course we’re going to do the tour with Britney [Spears]; the Femme Fatale Tour. I’m super excited about that. Good Morning America in the summer as well, and just starting to work on my sophomore album. I’m really really excited about it. Of course we just put out ‘Super Bass,’ which is the Number One record on Rap/Hip Hop on iTunes, and it got up to Number 12 on the Hot 100 on iTunes. So I’m just working on that and I’m super excited about continuing what I started with Pink Friday and then going all over the world next year. You know, I think the United States has had enough of me for a little bit, and I think I can now pack my bags and go to France and the UK and everywhere else. Just everywhere.” (Hip Hop DX)
Last month, the self-proclaimed Barbie promised to announce her Pink Friday follow-up release in September.
“You’ll get another album within 12 months,” she told KIIS FM’s JoJo. “You’ll get the announcement for the next album in–and I’m saying the announcement–that you’ll get the announcement in September. That’s all.” But for now she’ll stay busy promoting her new single “Super Bass” and its video, set to arrive in the next week. Videos for “Did It On’em” and “Fly,” her collaboration with Rihanna, have also been shot. (Rap-Up)
In March, Minaj said an album release date would cause her competition to alter their projects.
However, she already has a release date in mind for her sophomore set — though she’s reluctant to broadcast the info. “I can give you an idea,” she said, coyly. “But I don’t want to. I’d rather not right now. Because then everybody is gonna jump on the bandwagon and say they’re putting out their album the same day.” (MTV)
Along with a platinum-selling debut album, artists like Lloyd Banks feel her impact on the rap game far exceeds just record sales.
“[Nicki’s] very lyrical and creative with how she puts words together, I think she’s going to open up the minds of girls who are opposed to just looking like a Barbie. I think the idea is not just the excitement of having the clothes and the look and everything. I think that she’s making girls want to actually put words together.” (All Hip Hop)
