Young Money's Nicki Minaj has shared her sentiments on her rap game achievements and acknowledged her place as one of the most successful female hip-hop artists.
Although she admits that she is rapidly achieving her planned goals, Minaj said helping making Young Money a top brand was unexpected.
“A part of me expected it, because I wanted it so bad, but I never saw all of this,” Minaj said in an interview. “You know, I never would’ve imagined that I would’ve signed to [Lil] Wayne, number one…[I] never imagined that Young Money/Cash Money would be the hip-hop crew…To be signed to them is one thing, but to be signed to them when they’re at their height, when this has become like an insane movement? No, I never imagined that, because when Wayne first called and reached out, I thought it was a joke. I’ve wanted this for a very long time, but I couldn’t — not even with a crystal ball — I could not have predicted these things would really happen this way.” (MTV)
Since its release last month, Minaj’s Pink Friday debut has already gone Gold.
Rapper Nicki Minaj’s Pink Friday slid two slots to No. 8 with 97,400. With a full month under her belt, the Young Money star’s debut album has pushed out 658,400 copies. (SOHH Sales Wrap)
Rap newcomer Waka Flocka Flame recently talked about Minaj’s focus on being successful at the start of her career.
“She probably learned some sh*t off me and I learned a lot off her,” Waka explained in an interview. “We’ve been around. That’s what got her blown up–she can connect to her fans…Everybody was trying to f*ck her. Everybody. Nicki wouldn’t mess with anybody. I swear to God, she came here focused. Came all the way here focused. She was smashing tracks. Every track she on, she had the hardest verse.” (RESPECT)
Aside from work, Minaj appeared on television host Chelsea Handler‘s late night talk show, last week and discussed her relationship desires.
“It’s like your natural instinct is to be bossy, but then you really can’t be like that with your boyfriend all the time, you know,” Minaj explained to television host Chelsea Handler. “I’m the total opposite in relationships. Like, I like for the boy to take control when we are [in bed.] It’s so different in real life. But when you’re with a boy, I want to feel like you can be a boss if you want to be, but you let me be the boss in real life, in public. It’s weird because him being a boss would turn me on but at the end of the day when it was time to really make it long-term, it would be too many egos clashing. You know what I mean?
