Young Money's Nicki Minaj has decided to stir up bloggers and critics alike by teasing them with news about her forthcoming sophomore album.
Nicki believes an album release date would cause artists to alter their projects.
However, she already has a release date in mind for her sophomore set — though she’s reluctant to broadcast the info. “I can give you an idea,” she said, coyly. “But I don’t want to. I’d rather not right now. Because then everybody is gonna jump on the bandwagon and say they’re putting out their album the same day.” (MTV)
To date, her debut Pink Friday album has already sold over a million copies since its release last year.
Young Money star Nicki Minaj’s Pink Friday creeped a little closer to Top 10 status moving up three slots to No. 13 with 25,100. With 17 weeks in the books, her debut album has shelled out 1,239,000 copies to date. (SOHH Sales Wrap)
The album helped her make history for remaining in the Top 10 over an extensive amount of time.
The female rap vixen dropped her certified platinum debut album Pink Friday fourteen weeks ago. Since then, the album hasn’t left the Top 10 of the Billboard Top 200 chart, thereby breaking yet another record for the most weeks in the Top 10 by a female rapper. Last year Nicki had a whole slew of broken records under her pink heavyweight belt, as “Your Love” reached the number one spot on the Billboard Rap Songs chart (a first for female rappers since close to a decade), Nicki had the most appearances at one time by a female rapper on the Billboard Hot 100, and then became the first female MC since Eve to achieve the number one spot on the Billboard charts. A few weeks ago, Minaj revealed her intent to stop doing collaborations for two years.
“I’m done with the collabs,” Minaj revealed in an interview. “No more collabs for the next two years. [Britney Spears?] Oh yeah. [smiles] Britney’s a snatch like me and she’s cute. Yes. We might could do something.” (Hip Hollywood)
