Young Money rapper Nicki Minaj took a step closer to launching her upcoming Kmart clothing line by holding a media-only press conference heading into the weekend.
Nicki’s West Hollywood media day gave her an opportunity to boast about the forthcoming fashion line.
Nicki Minaj held a press conference for the launch of her lifestyle brand, the Nicki Minaj Collection, at Fig & Olive in West Hollywood on Friday. The blonde Barb sported bangs and showed off her curves in a white dress before taking the podium to answer questions from the media. “This is a very exciting moment for me,” she told reporters. “Teaming up with Kmart and ShopYourWay.com is gonna give me a way to have my fans dress like me for an affordable price and it’s going to be rich stuff, quality stuff. My big thing is that it cannot look cheesy and cheap, and that’s what I want to give my beautiful Barbz.” (Rap-Up)
The self-proclaimed Barbie’s business role behind the brand was revealed at the press conference.
The “American Idol” judge will oversee the design and development of the brand so that it reflects her unique style. “Everything I do is a true representation of me,” she said. “It’s very important that I’m not just slapping my name on something.” The diverse line will include everything from accessories such as hats and earrings to “cooky crazy” leggings to classic pieces you can wear to work. “I’ve been feeling so romantic and sexy lately, so dresses have to be in the line,” said Nicki. The Nicki Minaj Collection will be available at select Kmart locations and online beginning this year. Maroon 5’s Adam Levine is also a part of the mega Kmart partnership.
We can’t say we were surprised when we heard that Nicki Minaj and Adam Levine would be launching their own clothing and accessories lines at Kmart and Shop Your Way in 2013. The two musicians-turned-reality-show-judges will “design and develop their collections with Kmart to reflect their strong creative talents, expressive personalities, and distinctive individual styles,” according to the press release. I mean, Nicki has been very openly shopping around her potential clothing line since last August, and even back then said, “My biggest goal was to make a line that was going to be affordable to my fans and also rich enough in quality that they’ll feel like they’re wearing exactly what I’m wearing.” And for Adam, well, remember he launched a clothing collection (called 222) back in 2010, and since then has been flirting in and out of fashion world by performing at the Victoria’s Secret runway show and releasing his first-ever fragrance? Nicki spoke on the gear dropping sometime this year back in November.
“That’s the big thing I’m looking forward to next year, the clothing line,” Nicki said in an interview. “The clothing line’s going to be so, so, so freaking cute. You guys are going to love it.
