Young Money rapper Nicki Minaj recently sat down to discuss her Twitter language and why her “Barbz” are the only people who truly get what she tweets.
Along with discussing secret terminology, Minaj also explained why she uses the nickname “Barbz” to describe some fans.
“My Barbz and I, we have our own language and ‘CF’ is something that we use to describe, I can’t tell you what it actually stands for — it stands for something — it just means something that has to do with people that wouldn’t necessarily know my old stuff, like people who would only know my ‘Starships’. It’s another word for [casual friends]. [Barbz?] Um, they’re so cute and they’re so pretty, [Barbie Dolls], with a ‘z’, yes, of course. I wouldn’t use it with an ‘s’, Jimmy.” (“Jimmy Kimmel Live”)
Last year, Minaj returned to Twitter after deleting her entire page and leaving 11 million-plus followers stranded.
When she previously said goodbye to Twitter, the Head Barb left behind over 11 million followers, making her the most popular MC on the social networking platform, and the 11th most followed individual in the world. Due to these massive numbers, Nicki’s account hasn’t rebooted yet, but over the past hour her follower count has jumped from 67,675 [1:45 p.m. EST] to 191,002 [2:30 p.m. EST]. @NickiMinaj has also yet to post an official comeback tweet. Prior to coming back, she showed no indication of wanting to make a Twitter return.
“Do you,” she asked radio host Tim Westwood when he professed how much fans miss her on Twitter. “I know. [laughs, reads statement from Westwood] ‘Nicki Minaj, please come back to Twitter. We love you and it isn’t the same without you. Do it for the Barbz and Kens and everyone who loves to wear pink on a Friday. Give me life.’ … [Am I going to come back?] No. Tim, I can’t. I miss my Barbz. [They miss me,] but I can’t come back. I just can’t Tim, don’t make me, please don’t. Let’s move on.” (Tim Westwood TV)
Back in 2010, Nicki detailed her passion for signing fans’ chests and her Barbie movement.
“Anybody that knows me knows that I have a very, very bipolar personality, so one minute I’m excited and the next minute I’m crying and the next minute I’m cussing and yelling and the next minute I’m singing Enya,” Nicki told FADER writer Julianne Escobedo Shepherd. “I’m not kidding. And the point is, my rap style now reflects my true personality. Because I am so weird…I wish I could fricking remember the first boob that I signed. I don’t know why I did it, but now I can’t go anywhere and not do it. People come up to me wherever I am, girls, sexy girls, like, ‘Can you sign my boob?’ I mean, n*ggas in the club look at me like I’m a pimp. They like, Whaaat? Cause they be fly chicks. I don’t know, but I do know it’s a great thing.” (The FADER)
