Actor Nick Cannon has come to the defense of his wife Mariah Carey in light of her reported gripe with fellow "American Idol" panelist Nicki Minaj and said his real problem is with the show's network.
Cannon admitted his biggest issue is with Fox allowing Minaj to get at his wife.
The host of America’s Got Talent says he blames producers and FOX for allowing Nicki to lash out at his wife, “I’m kinda disappointed in FOX and everything, because they’re taking away from the quality of Idol.” Appearing on Access Hollywood Live on Wednesday, Nick says, “This is about people accomplishing their dream — experts guiding these young people to do what they’ve done.” Mariah’s hubby points out, “If you watch the video, she [Mariah] maintains her composure.” He describes Mariah as “the strongest classiest woman I’ve ever met.” Taking the high road, Nick says of Mariah, “I don’t think she’s moved by the theatrics or pageantry of it all — she signed on to do a job to help young people realize their dreams.” (RumorFix)
Despite Nick’s stance, the latest reports suggest Carey egged on Minaj.
Mariah Carey fired the first shots in her “American Idol” war with Nicki Minaj … calling the rapper a “bitch” multiple times … this according to sources close to Minaj. According to our sources, Nicki is adamant … in the moments before the TMZ video begins, Mariah repeatedly berated her … until Nicki finally had enough and exploded. Nicki Minaj derailed the “American Idol” auditions in Charlotte, North Carolina today, after swearing at Mariah Carey and threatening, “I’m gonna knock you out” … sources tell TMZ. In the footage, obtained by TMZ, Nicki is clearly furious … shouting, “I told them, I’m not f*ckin’ putting up with her f*ckin’ highness over there.” Sources say Nicki later threatened to “knock out” Mariah … but that part wasn’t captured on tape. It all went down while the two were sitting at the judge’s table … with Keith Urban sitting in between them and Randy Jackson sitting on the far end, next to Mariah. (TMZ)
Around mid-September, Carey denied having any issues with the animated emcee.
MTV News paid a visit to the “Idol” set at Lincoln Center on Monday (September 17), and the judges — including Minaj and Carey — were all smiles, immediately putting to rest tales of bad blood between the two. “How are we gonna feud in two days? A feud takes a little longer to spread out [than that],” Mariah responded, laughing, when asked if she and the YMCMB rapper were seeing eye-to-eye. “It’s fun, it’s music, it’s singing, it’s laughter,” she added, while Minaj chuckled along with her, looking amused at the beef rumors.
