Nick Cannon Lands Hosting Gig, Replaces Jerry Springer On “America’s Got Talent”

Rapper Nick Cannon has been chosen to become the new host of NBC’s “America Got Talent” television competition show in time for its fourth season.

The decision to replace reknowned host Jerry Springer was made Monday (February 9).

“Nick exemplifies the spirit of ‘America’s Got Talent’ with his talent, originality and an infectious love of performing and creating,” NBC head of alternative programming Paul Telegdy said. “His popularity and appeal are sure to take the series to a new level of success.” (Hollywood Reporter)

He will help kick-off the program’s fourth season.

The 28-year-old will take up his role in the summer, when the fourth series of the show starts on US TV. Jerry Springer quit the job due to other commitments including a stage play. Springer fronted the past two seasons of the popular programme, with Regis Philbin the show’s first presenter. (BBC News)

Cannon will join a show known for its entertaining look at people showing off a diverse set of talents.

“America’s Got Talent” is open to all ages and to performers of all kinds (including comedians, contortionists, jugglers and magicians, as well as singers and dancers), all competing for its $1 million prize. Last season, the winner was Missouri native Neal E. Boyd, an operatic tenor and insurance salesman. Auditions in several cities are scheduled in the coming weeks for the new season. The rapper has had a successful career on the small screen.

Cannon had his breakthrough role while a teen on the Nickelodeon series “All That,” starred in his own MTV show, “Nick Cannon Presents Wild’n Out,” and has recorded with artists including Kanye West and Diddy. His film appearances include Bobby and The Killing Room. (MSNBC)
