[After surprising fans by launching a hip-hop career with his Young Paper Chasers label, San Diego Chargers star Melvin Ingram talks to SOHH about the record company.]

Young Paper Chasers is solely my thing. It started from me and a couple of my homeboys, when we were in college, we were a bunch of less fortunate black kids coming from different areas with the same story, trying to make it to the same place.

So Young Paper Chasers is about when one eats, we all eat. Everybody is a young paper chaser. If you’re a young person chasing your dreams, then you’re a young paper chaser.

You can be cutting grass and you’re a young paper chaser. You’re chasing an ultimate goal. So it was us making that up in college. We clique-tight. We’re Young Paper Chasers.

If one eats, we all eat. We all stay loyal.

We aren’t opposed to signing people but for right now it’s just the family right now.

I feel like the company is going to evolve from a record label to its own brand. We’re in the process of making some clothes and all types of stuff.

We’re just trying to always stay busy and trying to have ends and outs to everything. Right now we’re focused on football. So Young Paper Chasers is focused on football and rap.

So we’re making football clothes, we’re making rap clothes, we’re making all types of clothes. We’re just trying to make it happen.
