St. Lunatics‘ leader Nelly has announced plans to launch a new variety show called “Nelly’s Night in Vegas.”
The premise of the program will focus on the rapper performing a variety of antics.
“Nelly’s Night in Vegas,” a weekly talkshow-variety hybrid series, would feature Nelly performing and interacting with other celebrities. 25/7’s Dave Broome is set to executive produce along with Nelly and “The Daily Show” co-creator Madeleine Smithberg. (Entertainment Weekly)
Nelly will aim to generate interest from a younger audience.
“I was thinking about what was missing on TV, and when this idea came about, it made sense for me,” Nelly said in a statement. “We do have talkshows, but no one’s speaking from the pop culture perspective. Let’s get a little more pop, a little more edge, a little bit younger, and not look like you’re sitting in the principal’s office. As a performer, that’s the type of show you look forward to going on.” (Gossip Rocks)
In addition to celebrity guests, the St. Louis, Missouri-bred emcee will also have his own band.
The show would look like a talkshow-variety hybrid, Broome said, with a sidekick and house band, as well as guests and performances. Because it will shoot in Vegas, there may also be an in-studio gaming element. (Variety)
A location for the weekly series has already been chosen.
The show is still being pitched to networks as a weekly series. A deal has been secured between 25/7 and Planet Hollywood to have the show shot at its Las Vegas hotel. (Ace Showbiz)
