Beyonce, Ne-Yo, John Legend, along with a mix of old-school and soulful artists, have been tapped to perform at the upcoming Essence Music Festival next summer.
This year’s event will feature a star-studded line-up of acts.
Maxwell, Robin Thicke, En Vogue, Keri Hilson, Janelle Monae, Jazmine Sullivan, Salt-N-Pepa, Raphael Saadiq, The Knux, DJ Soul Sister, Eric Benet and others are billed to appear. (Billboard)
Essence‘s variety of artists has been an annual aspect of the festival.
“That’s the wonderful thing about Essence,” Essence president of Communications Michelle Ebanks said. “It’s not one particular genre of music. It’s a celebration of the music of our lives, of all the music that we know and love.” More musical acts may be added in coming months, she said. (Associated Press)
In addition to the performances, other events are scheduled.
The festival, slated for July 3-5 in New Orleans, will include special events surrounding the Essence Festival’s 15th anniversary and the recent inauguration of President Barack Obama. There will be a tribute to Bishop T.D. Jakes, the Dallas pastor who gave the inauguration day sermon at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Washington, D.C., just before Obama took the oath for the nation’s highest office. (WXVT News)
Tickets for the Essence festival are available from Ticketmaster. Weekend packages are discounted by 15% through Feb. 15.
