Damion “Damizza” Young, a close associate of Nate Dogg, recently visited the West Coast rap singer in a treatment facility and gave an update on his health.
Details about Nate’s condition have been scarce since he suffered multiple strokes in recent years.
“It hurt me deeply to see my friend in such a state and I told him ‘There are many people who don’t know where you are or what condition you’re in,'” Young wrote referring to his weekend visit. “I asked his mom and him if he had heard music in a long time. Nate’s way of communicating is to look up if it’s a ‘Yes’ and to the side if it’s a ‘No.’ He looked at me with saddened eyes and looked to the side. I took him, in his wheelchair, to a computer and played him all the songs we’ve done together. He is steps away from speaking again and when I asked him in our classic inside-joke kinda way, ‘let’s make a deal …’ I said ‘I’ll bring you your catalogue, headphones and a CD player if you just try to talk again.’ He looked up and signaled ‘Yes!’ I go back in two weeks and I hope that his listening to his music helps bring him back from whatever space he’s in. God knows, in my darkest times, HE was the one who pulled ME out.” (Dubcnn)
Warren G previously spoke with SOHH about Nate’s condition and making a 213 group album for him.
“I’m talking to Snoop [Dogg] to try and do a new 213 album,” G revealed. “And we’d dedicate it to Nate. You know what I’m saying? It’s up to him if he wanna collaborate on it, we can do it. But I’ve been sending it out left and right for him to holler at me about it, we can talk and do it, you know what I’m saying? So it’s nothing, it’s easy.” (SOHH)
Despite Nate’s condition, Warren was able to secure a guest feature for him on 2009’s The G-Files.
“He’s in recovery,” G revealed in an interview. “It’s kinda slow recovery right now, but he getting better. I’ve seen him and just praying and hoping that he recover faster so we can do this goodmusic…He’s on The G Files. It’s a record we did back in the day. Not back, back in the day, but a couple years ago. Me and him had recorded a whole bunch of songs. I got a lot of ‘em. Actually we recorded [some of them shortly] before he had the [first] stroke. We recorded about at least six — maybe eight records, where he just did like hooks and stuff…I’m saving a lot of that stuff for when he recovers too.” (Hip Hop DX)
Nate’s first stroke took place around January 2008.
Early reports indicated that the 39-year-old emcee, whose real name is Nathaniel Hale, might have had a heart attack Dec. 19, when he was admitted to Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center. He remained there through the Christmas holiday. But the hip-hopster’s manager, Rod McGrew, has clarified that Dogg suffered a stroke that paralyzed the left side of his body and affected his nervous system, including his sense of touch and ability to walk. Thankfully, the stroke did not cause any brain damage or vocal impairment and was confined to “neural muscular issues that have to be jump-started,” McGrew said. (E! Online)
