Speaking on rap stars like Nicki Minaj and Rick Ross, Nas stated West has been able to push the bar for urban music while still representing hip-hop.

“Nicki Minaj, Drake, [Rick] Ross and Kanye just came to just kill it off,” Nas said in an interview. “You know, they did they thing. They kept this thing alive. Man, you know, if [my music didn’t inspire other artists] then I didn’t do what I was supposed to do. I know what I did. People like Kanye is brilliant, so when Kanye is out there doing his thing, he’s entertaining all audiences and he’s keeping it hip-hop at the same time. Nobody does that but him.” (Rap Fix)

Last month, Nicki Minaj discussed the influence West has had on her music.

“When it came to me putting my [Pink Friday] album out, I was like ‘I can’t have an album without Kanye. He has to be a part of it.’ He’s become my mentor, he gives me advice, he hits me, takes random pictures off-line and says ‘Oh this is a good picture of you.’ He’s really into fashion so he’s a good person to have a well-rounded conversation with.” (RWD Mag)

“I’m very much looking forward to the Kanye West [My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy] album because I need to be scared and inspired for my second joint,” Drake to radio personality Funkmaster Flex. “That [‘Power’] record just had to happen. Kanye’s a genius and I’m super excited for the rest of the album because I’ve heard some things that people haven’t heard.” (“Sucker Free”)
