Rap veteran Nas recently gave out generous accolades, co-signing music newcomers Azealia Banks and Maybach Music Group’s Meek Mill.
Focusing first on Banks, Nasty Nas said he sees more than just a witty rapper in the Harlem, New York artist.
While A$AP Rocky, Kendrick Lamar, and Jay Electronica all have Nas’ respect, he singled out fellow New Yorker Azealia Banks. “I f*ck with that ‘212,’” he told Rap-Up.com of the 21-year-old’s breakout single. “She has incredible star power, you can see it already. I think we need that. To come across the total package in this game, you need more than just a hot 16 and not everybody is blessed with the total package. She has it.” (Rap-Up)
God’s Son took things up a notch by proclaiming Meek is the next rap artist to blow.
According to Mr. Jones, another artist who has “it” is Meek Mill. “I got my eyes on him. He’s the next one to take this sh*t over. I’m rooting for him,” said Nas. “There are no more street orators in the game, who are fresh off the block and can tell us currently what’s going on. So you gotta appreciate him. We have to support Meek Mill’s movement because he’s talking about real life and if we don’t support that, then what are we doin’?” (Rap-Up)
Earlier this month, Banks clarified reports suggesting she had plans to kill her rap image.
“don’t let the stupid rap blogs tell u i’ve stopped rapping.. cause i haven’t.. i’m still here.. i just know that being as REACTIVE of a person as i am… i can’t be reading EVERYONE’S thoughts all day. its easy for people to hide behind their twitter pages. so they’ll say sh*t they wouldn’t say if you were to ever be face to face. and when they say these things… and find out that i’m a REAL person.. and they get a REAL response.. they don’t know what to do… … then I’m standing there looking like the bad guy because i got too real. [sic]” (Azealia Banks’ Tumblr)
