After recent claims made by estranged wife Kelis about Nas‘ role as a parent, the rapper took to the internet to explain the importance of the male father figure.
Writing via a blog, the Queens, New York-bred emcee broke down his opinion of a father’s worth.
“Right now I’m shouting out to real dads,” he wrote, unmodified. “Some are great role models with real academic achievements. Some are not. Some are no longer alive. Some fathers are locked up, but they are praying for their kids and hoping to be on the streets soon and be betters dads 1 day. We deserve the love!!! Becuz we don’t even expect it, we do what we do regardless! With no signs of a reward for it. We put up with everything, standing true to what’s real and letting life take its course protecting our household, our woman, our children, our family…Biggest Shout To My Son On The Way!! Kelis has reportedly filed paperwork requesting Nas pay $20,000 a month in child support.
Kelis, expected to deliver their first child next month, said in a court filing she wants her soon-to-be ex-husband to give her $20,000 a month for baby supplies. The “Bossy” singer said a baby nurse, nanny and other staff, as well as strollers, cribs and other baby supplies for homes in Los Angeles and New York, cost money. Kelis, 29, who grew up in Harlem, said she hasn’t toured in more than a year and relies on Nas, 35, to maintain her lifestyle. (New York Daily News)
She also claims they both held different bank accounts throughout the course of their marriage.
During the same period, Nas released a number of albums and wrote songs for film soundtracks, his estranged wife wrote in her statement to the court. She added that the pair maintained separate bank accounts during their marriage. Kelis has also asked for additional funds to cover medical expenses related to the birth and her child and maintaining their residences. (BBC News)
The couple filed divorce paperwork in court last April.
Kelis wants to end her marriage to Nas, even though she’s 7 months pregnant. Kelis filed for divorce today (April 30) in L.A. County Superior Court, citing irreconcilable differences. She is asking for spousal support and child support. She is also asking for joint legal and physical custody of their unborn child. (TMZ)
