New York rap veteran Nas just went down memory lane. The hip-hop pioneer has penned an open note reflecting on his upbringing and revealing the impact fellow rap great MC Shan‘s “The Bridge” had on him.

Nasir Jones jumped on Instagram Friday (April 7) with the must-read note.

In mid-February, Ricky Rozay discussed his overall admiration for Nas.

“Nas excites Rozay. Hearing Nas talk about me being on his top five lyricists a few weeks back, it brought me back even more. It brought me back to a conversation we had, we were just on some rap sh*t. He brought up a line that I said on Deeper Than Rap album. I was just talking about when the South got on top, where the love at because we embraced everybody else. For that to be the first line he ever brought up, it just let me know how on top of his game he was and he’s really listening to this music and really in touch. So when we went on and collaborated and did “Triple Beam Dreams” and records of that nature, those set the standard for me and Nas. I’ma say it because you Angie Martinez, Nas is most definitely [on that level]. The records that we’ve made, from Deeper Than Rap and “Triple Beam Dreams” – it’s not about money. That’s the OG. He’s in a position where it’s not about paper. If you’re looking to buy a Nas verse, you’re playing yourself. Nine times out of ten. It’s the things you can’t buy.” (“The Angie Martinez Show”)

Recently, Nas announced he had finished putting together a new studio.
