In a new TIME interview, Nas dished on stopping the violence amongst skin color.

“You may have read about the Civil Rights but you didn’t live it. You may have read about lynchings in Mississippi and Alabama but you didn’t live through it. It was before this generation’s time, before my time. Now, you get to see something that’s always been going on. Something that’s been going on entirely too long. It’s not cool to look like a apartheid South Africa 1988. How are we going to be a free world or the most powerful country when inside this country we’re fighting because of skin color?” (TIME)

Nasir Jones also talked about the importance of educating the youth face-to-face.

“That’s just embarrassing. I’m one of the guys that’s out there saying, ‘Listen. It has to stop.’ It’s important that every time I see a black child I look him or her in the eyes and say, ‘This is your world. You’re a king or a queen.’ Everything else was telling them they were slaves. It’s important for them to know the history of black children doesn’t start in this great country.” (TIME)

Nas publicly showed his support and involvement last week.

Music mogul Russell Simmons also talked about the protests on social media.

Rap star Kendrick Lamar recently connected his powerful self-loving “i” song to the need for change in the United States.

“It’s something that I’ve been around since the beginning of time. I remember coming up in the city of Compton and [seeing] these same types of ordeals. So when I make a record like “i”, this is not just about me. It’s about what’s going on in real life, actual [facts].” (MTV)

  1. Can we get more rappers talking sense and not about how much they love coco

  2. Nas only portrays one side of the story. Fact is that back in Africa there was already black on black crime. Tribes were fighting agianst each other and the prisoners they made they sold as slaves to the europeans. Look at the genocide in Rwanda back in the 90’s, black killing blacks and Boko Haram in Nigeria. Blacks killing blacks. Talk about that too Nas. Black on black crime needs to stop!

      • Your so Right. Wont be a response to that cause Ralphs comment was purely based on hate.

    • You are not so bright.

Who are the instigator of these black on black problems in Africa since European incursion? You guessed it, Whites who have continued to create divisively instigating factors in Africa since slave trade, colonialism and post colonial period which won’t be stopping anytime soon.

Prior to Slave trade, what we had were empire engaging in wars of conquest and diplomatic relations. Prison system did not thrive in Africa, what we had were labourers, vassal states, payment of tributary etc – the white man came and destabilized the social system.

Sad part is, blacks still have a hard time seeing through the games and restructuring politically, economically and socially for a balance.

      • If you put it like that it means we are the most weakest race on earth. How bout we blacks stop blaming the whites for ALL OUR PROBLEMS. A white person can’t turn me against my black brother or sister. Maybe you and Nas but not me bruh.

        • That is the point you’re missing, I did not apportion blames and yes, going the chronology of history, black appears as the weakest and most vulnerable race.

All I am saying is we need to devise own path, we should begin to stand on our twos as a race relating with other races on equal terms not as a ‘sub’ like is in America, Europe, Aisa and embarrasingly Africa too.

We need to tear the system apart and re-mould the image of the African.

          Get my point?
