Rap veteran Nas recently talked about his admiration toward music pioneer Dr. Dre and confirmed plans to appear on the Doc’s long-awaited Detox solo album.
Although a release date has yet to be announced, Nasty Nas said look for his presence on Dre’s delayed LP.
“Dre is the king of the gangster music,” Nas told “106 & Park” host Rocsi. “You know what I mean? He’s like — I worked with him back in the days for The Firm album and I just did something for his new album, Detox, so I’ll wait for it. [Do I have the inside info?] No, don’t put that on me. [laughs] I don’t have the inside…We got a nice record, we got a nice record. That’s it.” (“106 & Park”)
In February 2009, the Queensbridge rapper hinted at his work on Detox.
“I did a joint. I think it’s crazy,” Nas says of working with Dre. “He’s someone I’d love to do a whole album with one day. He’s incredible. I think he’s the best producer of all time.” (Billboard)
Both Dre and Nas worked closely together in the mid-90’s rap group, The Firm.
The East Coast gangsta rap supergroup the Firm never lived up to its excessive hype and instead became a brief footnote in the careers of its main participants. The foursome included four NewYork rappers — Nas, Foxy Brown, AZ, and Nature — but was actually the pet project of its producers: Nas Escobar (as he referred to himself at the time), Steve “Commissioner” Stoute, Dr. Dre and the Trackmasters. Last May, rap star 50 Cent revealed his involvement on Dre’s upcoming project.
“I did a joint with dre for his album that’s crazy. They were suppose to put it out this weekend but you never know with dre,” he tweeted May 29th.
“Soon dre got some heat RT @bigseano84: @50cent when is Dre album detox comin?” (50 Cent’s Twitter)
As things stand now, a release date has not yet been announced.
