Rap veteran Nas has broken his silence on being separating from singer/ex-wife Kelis after dodging media questions over the past year.

Speaking with radio personality Tim Westwood, Nas said he did not regret his four-year marriage with Kelis.

“Nope, nope, nope,” Nas told Tim Westwood when asked if he wanted to comment on his personal life. “I never, you know, I never was that kind of dude, you know what I mean? It took me by surprise that today’s game, though, no matter who you are, you can wind up out there. Your business be out there. That’s just the way it is. I don’t know what to do about that. You can’t control it, it is what it is. I wish everybody the best, I wish the best for everybody. I ain’t tripping, life is life. I love life. You live and learn. You just keep growing. Yeah. It’s tough bruh, but yo, I dive in. I goes in. I still think marriage is a beautiful thing, it’s a beautiful thing, you just gotta be strong to weather the ups and downs. I think it’s a good thing to marry — I had great hopes. I thought we were going to go through it big, but two people are not, we gotta become one mind in a way. Two people think about life different, they see things different and then you just grow in different directions but I had a great time. Shout-out to my son Knight, he’ll be one tomorrow.” (“Tim Westwood TV”)

Kelis recently said she has decided to withhold specific details on what led to their divorce earlier this year.

In an interview with Jet magazine, the 30 year-old R&B singer said that she and her ex-husband are the only ones who know the truth and that all the media speculation about why she filed for divorce is false. ‘People talking were 99 per cent assumptions,’ she said. ‘They still don’t know what happened or what’s happening…They make up stories and most of it is not true.’ The couple divorced last year after four years of marriage and just two months before Kelis, a born-again Christian, gave birth to their son Knight, who turns one later this month. Recently, Kelis said she has been on speaking terms with Nas since their parting.

“Yeah everything’s fine. We are divorced, but there is no point to fighting — there is nothing to fight about,” she revealed in an interview with US Weekly. “I am super happy; my life is awesome. We are friends, we get along now and it’s all good…[Our son Knight] is hilarious! He claps, he snaps and he waves. He is a shrunken little person and has a lot of personality…Pregnancy gives a woman a strong sense of validation. [When you’re pregnant], you wake up everyday and internally everything is working perfectly and you look at the world and everything sort of fits together. It’s hard not to realize there is a creator and he created all of us.” (Celebrity Baby Scoop)

Nas was recently forced to pay over $15,000 a month for Kelis’ home mortgage.

TMZ obtained legal docs in which Nas concedes he owes Kelis a skosh less than $300,000 in spousal support. But it seems the most pressing problem is the mortgage for the home Kelis is living in — Nas is behind $52,989.22. So Nas’ lawyer, Mark Vincent Kaplan, filed a payment plan with the court, in which the rapper agrees to pay $17,500 up front, and then pretty much double the $7,800 mortgage payment each month to catch up. It’s pretty amazing — Kelis’ lawyer, disso queen Laura Wasser, has claimed Nas raked in $244,826 a month. (TMZ)
