Def Jam South President DJ Khaled recently recalled working with Nas for their "Victory" collaboration and said the rap mogul nearly missed his deadline.
Khaled also revealed Jadakiss and Game were initially considered for the track.
“I was on the final deadline with Nas for my last album. He’s a special kind of artist you know–so you wait for Nas no matter what. He loved the concept of that record. At first, Jadakiss and Game were going to be on it, but I thought about it for a few days and decided to tell him just to go in do whatever he wanted with it. I told him to catch the Holy Ghost on that one, and he did! Truthfully, I didn’t even have the time to try and wait for Jada and Game to get their verses in. Nas finished that one in the very last hour, and it came out classic. The chorus alone on that one is a movie.” (VIBE)
Despite landing Nas, Khaled was unable to secure his Shyne collaboration for the Victory album.
“He fit me into his schedule and I appreciate it,” Khaled said about Shyne. “The thing is, the record got leaked. Some hacker actually leaked it and it messed me up because when they leaked it, the publishers on the production of the track — came at me and tried to come at me on some legal stuff so I couldn’t even use it on my album. That’s why I hate these hackers. They ruin surprises — but at the end of the day, at least the streets got it and we fed the streets.” (Jessie Maguire)
