Biggie’s mother, Voletta Wallce, reveals her motivation for making a movie about her son’s life.
Voletta Wallace recently revealed that she always wanted to make a feature length film about the life and times of the Notorious B.I.G.
“In the past there were so many documentaries. I [thought] a movie would be good because there are so many people out there, people that respected his music, people who loved, maybe some who hated his music. [They] wanted to know about the person, the man. Who is this man? Why people like him so much. Why people hate him so much, hate him enough to kill him?”
Lil Cease, a long-time Biggie associate who worked as a consultant on the film believes that Notorious will expose fans to many sides of the slain rapper.
“It’s not just about the music,” Lil Cease told SOHH. “It’s about his life, about his mother, his relationship with his kids, his wife, his friends, just to show the type of person that he was off the camera and behind the music. It was definitely something good, something special. I was glad to be a part of it.” (SOHH)
According to early reviews of the film, Notorious was able to accurately capture the rapper’s personality.
The script captures more of Biggie’s personality than any of the many fine documentaries about Biggie, Tupac and the rap of that era. Woolard, a novice, nails the man’s swagger, his tone and his style. (The Orlando Sentinel)
