Incarcerated rapper Ja Rule's wife, Aisha, has come forward to address speculation and rumors that her husband left his family with unsettled bills and finances upon beginning his two-year jail sentence last week.
According to Aisha, Rule left his family with enough income to hold them over until he returns 2013.
Ja’s wife Aisha tells TMZ, “He did leave us well off. All of the rumors about Ja being broke are far from true.” Aisha adds, “Ja made sure … that me and my kids wouldn’t need anything as far as income goes. Heplanned well before he went in.” “We won’t be bad … even for a little bit — that was Ja’s first priority as a man who makes sure familycomes first.” (TMZ)
In April, Rule made headlines for failing to file federal taxes over the course of five years.
Rapper Ja Rule could go to prison for three years but likely will be fined after admitting in federal court in Newark today that he ducked $1.1 million in federal income taxes on nearly $4.4 million in royalties and live performance payments over five years. U.S. Magistrate Judge Patty Shwartz allowed 35-year-old Jeffrey Atkins, who lives in the tony Bergen community of Saddle River, to remain free on $500,000 bail pending a scheduled June 13 sentencing. A month prior, a judge delayed Rule’s gun possession case sentencing in light of the tax situation.
Ja Rule is set to go to prison in June in a New York City gun case. On Wednesday, a judge set a June 8 date for the platinum-selling rapper-actor’s sentencing. His lawyer says he’ll spend the intervening months finishing a new album, “Renaissance Project,” and taking care of tax matters. The 35-year-old performer pleaded guilty in December to attempted weapon possession. He agreed to a two-year prison term. (Wall Street Journal)
Prior to beginning the sentence, Rule expressed his sorrow for the conviction taking him away from his family.
“I’m disappointed,” Rule said in an interview. “I’m mad at myself. My daughter, she’s 15 right now. These are her last couple of years. She’s about to graduate from high school, and she’s going to college. She needs her father. My boys really need me right now too, as well as my wife. They need Daddy, and Daddy f*ced up…This is something that’s bad, but there’s gotta be some good that comes out of it. Even if there are other kids that look at me and say, ‘Let me put my burner down.’ Even if it’s that, then there is something learned from my mistakes.” (MTV)
