According to reports, a high-profile billionaire has an interest in the Clippers franchise.
Shelly Sterling will meet with former Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer Sunday afternoon … and the subject of the meeting is selling the Clippers … TMZ Sports has learned. The meeting will take place at Shelly’s Malibu mansion. TMZ Sports broke the story … Donald Sterling has surrendered control of the team to Shelly. We’re told Shelly sees the handwriting on the wall — the NBA wants the team sold — but she wants to do it on her terms. She and her lawyer, Pierce O’Donnell, have been secretly meeting with NBA Commissioner Adam Silver to see if they can reach an agreement whereby Shelly has the right to voluntarily sell the team. Earlier this month, bogus reports about music mogul Dr. Dre purchasing the Clippers hit the Internet.
An article saying Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling sold his team to Dr. Dre is fake. The article, titled “Donald Sterling Accepts Dr. Dre’s Bid to Buy Los Angeles Clippers for $1 Billion Cash,” was posted on Cream Bmp Daily, a “satire” website. According to Cream’s disclaimer, the website doesn’t post real news. (The Epoch Times)
The initial reports suggested Dre and his longtime business partner had their eyes on the Clippers.
“Dr. Dre and business parter Jimmy Iovine bid $1 Billion to acquire the Los Angeles Clippers moments after adding $3.2 billion dollars to their bank accounts for selling Beats Audio to Apple,” the fake article reads. It adds: “Dr. Dre says not much will change for the Clippers except for all players will required to wear Beats headphones and Donald Sterling along with Suge Knight will not be allowed at any Clippers games.” (Cream Bmp Daily)
Coincidentally, the music icon revealed an interest in possibly wanting to own the Los Angeles Clippers last month.
Dr. Dre tells TMZ Sports … he’s “absolutely” interested in buying the L.A. Clippers when the NBA forces Donald Sterling to sell the team … and he seems very serious about it. “I’m thinking about it … yes,” Dre told us on his way in to Boa Steakhouse in L.A. last night. It’s not like he couldn’t afford it … Forbes just released its list of wealthiest hip hop moguls and Dre clocked in at #2, with a reported net worth of $550 million. (TMZ)
