The rapper’s latest movie fell short of its competition including the weekend’s top movie, Star Trek.

Paramount’s Star Trek has successfully beamed up, debuting to $76.5 million at the domestic box office, including $4 million in Thursday night runs. Weekend’s other new wide release was Summit Entertainment’s urban comedy Next Day Air, which struggled to find an audience. The film grossed $4 million from 1,138 runs to place No. 6. (Variety)

Other notable performances included Beyonce‘s Obsessed which remained within the Top 5.

Beyonce Knowles fell to fourth place with her hit thriller Obsessed which grossed an estimated $6.6M, off 45%, for a solid cume of $56.2M for Sony. Teen king Zac Efron followed with his high school comedy 17 Again which dipped 31% to an estimated $4.4M giving Warner Bros. $54.2M to date. An amazing 22 new releases in 2009 have crossed the $50M mark compared to 14 from the same period last year. (Rotten Tomatoes)

Both Mos and co-star Wood Harris reportedly banned the “n-word” from being used on and off the set of their new film.

“It was something that was very important to us,” Harris explained. “It was our way of making a statement that we can express ourselves without using the N-word. But it wasn’t just in the movie that we banned the word. We also banned it on the set. No one could say it at all. At first it was difficult, but we really stayed on top of each other. By the end of … filming, I don’t know if it was something that even came up. We just didn’t say it, and had no desire to. I hope that other people will start trying to find new ways to express themselves as well.” (Rolling Out)

The movie features multiple comedians and established actors.

Directed by Benny Boom and written by Blair Cobbs, the movie features Donald Faison, Mike Epps, Omari Hardwick, Emilio Rivera, Cisco Reyes, Yasmin Deliz, Debbie Allen, Malik Barnhardt, Lobo Sebastian and more. (IMDb)
