Philadelphia rapper Ms. Jade has called out former mentor Missy Elliott stealing her swag amidst the launch of the femcee’s career in the early 2000’s.
According to Jade, Missy took her image and used it on countless occasions.
“When I first came out, my persona was kind of like, the roundaway girl with the Adidas sweatsuit, bamboo earrings,” Miss Jade said in an interview with radio host Star. “She took that and ran all the way down the street with it. And you know, as a new artist, it looks like I’m copying from her but actually, it’s the other way around. She took the same exact picture [of me posing in a baseball cap sideways] — Missy Elliott swagger jacked me.” (“Star & Bucwild”)
Jade dropped her debut album eight years ago.
The Philly rapper released her sole album ‘Girl Interrupted’ in 2002, finding lukewarm success with the singles ‘Big Head,’ ‘Ching Ching’ featuring Nelly Furtado and ‘Feel the Girl.’ Over the past few years, she’s been plotting a comeback, hopping on the official remix to Beyonce’s ‘Diva’ and most recently releasing a song and video with Freeway. As of late, Jade has worked amongst the likes of R&B artists including Beyonce and Ciara.
In 2008, she released new music on her Myspace page, including “Cha Cha 2008″ and “A Millie Freestyle”. In 2009 she undertook an interview with newfreemixtape.com discussing her comeback. She also was featured on Beyoncé’s official remix to her hit single, “Diva”, featuring Ciara. (Wikipedia)
In regard to Missy, the rapper is currently working on her delayed Block Party LP.
Lately, Missy E has been busy producing records for other artists, the latest one being Jazmine Sullivan‘s ‘Holding U Down’ but here’s some good news for the fans. She will be finally returning to the scene with her brand new single called ‘Blow Ya Whistle’. Apparently, her album is still titled Block Party. (Hip Hop N More)
