Pop singer Miley Cyrus has finally stepped forward to clear the air on making headlines last month with a memorable, for better or worse, MTV Video Music Awards performance.

Despite the backlash she has received since grinding on R&B singer Robin Thicke, Miley has stood behind her live set.

Miley isn’t about to back down. She did what she came to do, nailed it, and feels great about it. “What’s amazing is I think now, we’re three days later and people are still talking about it. They’re over thinking it,” she says. “You’re thinking about it more than I thought about it when I did it. Like, I didn’t even think about it ’cause that’s just me.” (MTV)

The 20-year-old even likened herself to past VMAs standouts like Madonna and Britney Spears.

And, to that point, Cyrus isn’t going to let her detractors hold her back. She’s doing things her way, defining her career on her own terms. After all, though she may be just 20 years old, she certainly knows a thing or two about pop history. “I don’t pay attention to the negative because I’ve seen this play out so many times,” Miley asks, “How many times have we seen this play out in pop music?” “Madonna’s done it. Britney’s done it. Every VMA performance, that’s what you’re looking for; you’re wanting to make history.” (MTV)

Earlier this year, the former Disney Channel star spoke on having a difficult life.

But while her latest bizarre attempt to disassociate herself from wholesome Hannah Montana remains fresh in the memory, the young singer and actress freely admits she ‘has issues.’ In an interview conducted earlier this year, Miley told the Sunday People: ‘I have so many f***ing issues. I am so f***ed up – everyone does dumb stuff when they are messed up. I don’t have a normal life. I take a hiatus every now and again but I’m not good at that.’ The 20-year-old singer and actress became a household name thanks to the global success of Hannah Montana, and she says the rigorous touring and TV appearances that came with promoting it gave her a strong work ethic. She said: ‘All I do is work, so I eat to live and to keep going. People are impressed with me because I can sleep for just 45 minutes – I’m used to it. (Daily Mail)

Last week, Miley sparked headlines for her crotch-grabbing VMAs antics.

It was the twerk seen ’round the world – and it was all Miley’s idea. Cyrus, 20, had been working on the VMAs performance of her hit “We Can’t Stop” – along with her racy duet with Robin Thicke – for about a month before MTV’s big awards show on Sunday. Though her skimpy, flesh-colored outfit, her suggestive use of a foam finger and close contact with Thicke, 36, were panned on social media, not everyone is criticizing Cyrus’s jaw-dropping performance. Stars like Justin Timberlake came to her defense, telling one radio station, “Let her do her thing.” But the Parents Television Council issued a statement condemning MTV for airing the number.
