Method Man Says “Wu-Massacre” Was Forced, “Def Jam Put A Rush On It”

Wu-Tang Clan’s Method Man recently revealed that Wu-Massacre, his collaboration album with Raekwon and Ghostface Killah, was completed with limited time and money.

According to the rapper/actor, there were time restraints on the album.

“We’re not doing this to win,” he said in an interview. “We’re not doing this to bring Wu-Tang to the forefront. We’re not doing this to save the group. We’re a part of the group,” Method Man said recently in New York. “This album could have been done by Deck, U-God and GZA. Either/or, it’s still Wu-Tang. The bottom line with this LP, it was something fans always requested…Def Jam put a rush on it. We didn’t have a lot of time to work on it. We recorded with no budget. It is what it is. We did this for the fans. It felt good to get in the studio with Rae and Ghost. The future looks bright.” (MTV)

Raekwon also talked about the project’s importance last month.

“I’d say probably four or five months ago,” Rae said about the album’s recording process. “We just wanted to make another album that really represents our brand, which is the W. When you think of Wu-Tang, we’ve been in the business for damn near almost, what, 17 years? We just want to make sure that people still know that we didn’t go nowhere — musically, passionately about hip-hop. When you get records like this, it helps keep the W flag up high. You know what I mean? Like the American flag. We gotta take care of that flag. It was something that was going to happen sooner or later. Us three, we always work good together throughout the years. On a lot of records, me, Ghost, and Meth was always next to each other. If you look at [the Wu-Tang Clan] as being the Lakers, we are the MVPs of the team.” (Entertainment Weekly)

The project has also gained support from G-Unit’s DJ Whoo Kid.

“Oh my God man, I just heard the album, it’s crazy man,” Whoo Kid said in a video. “The Wu-Massacre, DJ Whoo Kid, yo, I got respect from them, I’m not gonna bootleg it. I’m gonna wait until it comes March 30th so I’m not gonna bootleg it but motherf*cking crackheads, potheads, white kids, old people, young people, y’all need to get this Wu-Massacre! That sh*t is serious. Pow! I’m not gonna bootleg it.” (Best of Both Offices)
