New York rap veteran Method Man has updated fans on the elusive Wu-Tang Clan 20th anniversary reunion album and promised it would finally drop sometime this year.
In new footage floating online, Mef is shown at a birthday celebration in Hollywood revealing the Wu plans.
“This year will be the 20th anniversary. How many brothers kept a job for twenty years? The same job. That’s the sh*t. We owe that sh*t to each and every fan that ever supported our music, and that’s real talk,” Mr. Meth told screaming fans. “On that note, man, we got an anniversary coming up. The Wu-Tang anniversary album coming up, we working on that now. Some nice treats on there. [When’s it dropping?] This year. This f*cking year.” (Hip Hop Heisenberg)
Last month, the Wu’s Raekwon explained why money is not enough to bring the Clan together.
“The bottom line is: Of course I want to see a Wu-Tang reunion. Of course. Who wouldn’t? I just want everything to be right, the business. When we made a lot of our great music, it was because we were in harmony. You cannot put guys together if there is no harmony, and on top of it, we’re doing business. As a man with children, I have to always look at that. It’s bigger than sometimes just the thought of it, the fact of it, it just gotta make sense.” (RapFix)
In December, the “Chef” stressed the importance of a reunion being done the right way.
“We’ve been talking about these things and it’s important for us to know we’re going to do it right,” Rae said in an interview. “It’s been speculations and at the end of the day, I can’t see us not doing it in the greatest way and the right way neither. I don’t want to do it any other way but the right way. So we’ve been talking about doing a couple of different things, you know? Maybe you might get an opportunity to see the Wu do they own reality show or something that makes sense to the masses for the last 20 years.” (HHNM)
Last fall, the Wu’s Masta Killa hit up SOHH and spoke on the delayed regathering.
“The reunion already started, man,” Masta told SOHH. “You know what I’m saying? [laughs] That’s something natural. That’s like coming home for Thanksgiving. Sometimes all the family shows up, sometimes you might be missing a brother and you’re like, ‘Ah man! It would have been the bomb if he had came.’ You know? We’re gonna do what we do naturally but I’m definitely looking forward to bringing it all back together and holding up the ‘W’ again. Whenever that comes, just know it’s coming. Just know it’s coming.” (SOHH)
