Meek Mill & Wale Spark Big Hype, Let Everyone Down

Maybach Music Group’s Meek Mill and Wale know to how pull a cruel joke on diehard fans after teasing the Internet about plans to drop a joint project today (October 7).

Buzz behind the MMG studs putting out a collaborative effort heated up the ‘net Sunday (October 6).

Meek Mill took to Instagram and Twitter to announce that he will be dropping a new mixtape with Wale tomorrow. Meek did not elaborate on a title for the mixtape. However, he did share another picture of the two alongside Omelly, who is a member of Meek’s Dreamchasers label. This suggests that Omelly will be appearing on the project in some capacity. Meek just dropped his latest mixtape, Dreamchasers 3, last week. Less than two weeks prior to that, Maybach Music Group released Self Made Vol. 3, which included songs from both Wale and Meek. While Omelly did not appear on Dreamchasers 3, he did appear on Self Made Vol. 3, on a song called “The Plug,” which also included Meek and Young Breed. Meanwhile, earlier this summer, Wale released his latest album, The Gifted. (Complex)

As the anticiipation continued to intensify, Wale quickly brought an end to the fans expectations.

Wale’s response to Mill’s tweet makes it seem like it is a joke and not really going to happen. “Ha RT @MeekMill: New tape coming tomar Me x wale #letsgetit http://instagram.com/p/fJfBLIikLH/” Wale tweeted. This tweet though, really clarifies the situation. And sadly, disappoints all of the eager fans. @JUKEBOXDC @MeekMill na we was just talkin shyt. I dared him to sat it,” Wale tweeted. It would have been remarkable that the two could have made this given the amount of projects on their plates this year, and keep it a secret. It also would be incredible for an artist to hold off announcing a mixtape till the night before it was set to be released. Normally artists try to hype up their projects, not keep them a secret and then just throw them out there. (Fansided)

The viral craziness comes just days after Meek released his new Dreamchasers 3 project.

There’s a really great twitter, @MeekMillRapLike, that meme-ishly collects all-caps comparisons for Philadelphia rap star Meek Mill’s delivery: “MEEK MILL RAP LIKE HE STEPPED ON A LEGO PIECE,” “MEEK MILL RAP LIKE HE TRAPPED IN A ELEVATOR,” “MEEK MILL RAP LIKE HE ORDERING FOOD FROM THE PASSENGER SEAT.” There’s a reason this Twitter exists: Nobody, and especially nobody at the A-list rap-star level, raps like Meek Mill. Meek has risen to stardom at a time when peevish fame-laments and pill-gobbling luxury-rap are the order of the day for rap stars. And yet he brings a ferocious urgency, a demons-chasing-me fury that’s all but disappeared from the highest levels of the game. Even at his most relaxed, on a song like the great churchy Drake-collab hit “Amen,” he has things that he wants to get off his chest. And now that he’s a famous rapper with famous-rapper concerns, those things are persistently refusing to go away. When Kenrick Lamar provocatively rattled off a list of his peers’ names on his landmark “Control (HOF)” verse, Meek was the only one of those names to respond by, more or less, threatening to murder Kendrick. On his new Dreamchasers 3 tape, Meek refers to himself as the “last of the street niggas,” and the tape makes two strong arguments: First, that this is true, and second, that this is an important thing to be. Recently, Wale spoke on how many more opportunities there are these days in comparison to past years.

“We got a black president. As cliché as that sounds,” he also states. “And it sounds normal now since it’s been about six years, but [there] was a time when it seemed far-fetched. Anything can happen. I think there are way more outlets. Way more. There are way more things going on. You can become a director without even going to art school now. It’s not just trapping and rapping.” (Rolling Out)
