The hip-hop community has stepped forward to speak out on last night's head-scratching Grammy Awards which resulted in music duo Macklemore & Ryan Lewis dominating the rap categories and Kendrick Lamar leaving empty-handed.
While Maybach Music Group’s Meek Mill shouted out Macklemore for the wins, he acknowledged K. Dot’s rough night.
“Congrats 2 @macklemore for a incredible win and I believe Kendrick was robbed …… This game was never fair….and awards can’t change the judgement of the culture…. I f*cks wit Macklemore for this text….. Most of these awards are always f*cked up!,” Meek tweeted January 27. (Meek Mill’s Twitter)
Pittsburgh rapper Mac Miller also questioned Lamar’s zero wins and congratulated Macklemore.
“no grammy for kendrick tho. not 1. not 1 single grammy.,” Mac tweeted January 27.
“Congratulations to Macklemore too. He murdered the Grammys. That’s awesome.” (Mac Miller’s Twitter)
Hollywood actor/director Michael Rapaport specifically called out the Grammy Awards for snubbing hip-hop and took specific aim at the Seattle native.
“Macklemore won best Rap record at the Grammys.OMGOODness.hiphop is dead & KILL the damn Grammys.where the hell is RAKIM?Macklemore ain’t Rap,” Rapaport tweeted January 26.
“RAKIM,KRS1 & BDK are shaking there d*mn heads to break beat Over the fact that Macklemore won best Rap album at the bullsh*t a** Grammys” (Michael Rapaport’s Twitter)
Coincidentally, the Mack Man revealed a personal apologetic text message he shot to K. Dot following last night’s big wins.
“You got robbed. I wanted you to win. You should have. It’s weird and sucks that I robbed you. I was gonna say that during the speech. Then the music started playing during my speech and I froze. Anyway, you know what it is. Congrats on this year and your music. Appreciate you as an artist and as a friend. Much love.” (Macklemore’s Instagram)
